Not sure how accurate it is but according to ESPN and Hoops Hype 50 players in 2020-21 will make over $20 million. 57 will be paid more than Eric Bledsoe for 2021-22. That's just the players with contracts right now. If you really think there isn't an NBA team that will take a guy that was productive for many years at only 31 years old on what is essentially a 1 year contract for under $20 million I have no idea what to tell you. Again Bledsoe's 2022-23 contract barely any of it is guaranteed. So if he is awful and it wasn't just a one year thing the team can release him and pay barely any of his 2022-23 salary. $20 million may be a bunch to you and me but in the NBA $20 million per year is not much for a guy that has been productive.
You think these 2 contracts are bad? Look at John Wall's contract. If this is what a team has to give up to get rid of these 2 contracts what would Houston have to give up for someone to take John Wall's contract? 4 1st round picks?
If Valanciunas gets resigned and is great sure this makes sense for the Pelicans. If they don't resign him you're giving up picks and players for a 1 year rental on a team going nowhere this season.
With the #10 pick in the draft you could get a nice asset. I know the Lakers pick will probably be in the late 20s but it's still a 1st round pick that is an asset. I know it's not looked at as much but why are the Pels swapping the 40th pick for the 51st too? I highly doubt Memphis would have pulled out of the trade based on a 2nd round pick swap.
If I'm Zion I'm counting down the days until I can leave. The last thing you want to be in the NBA is average. The Pelicans should want young players with big upside to go around Zion. Unless you can get a big star which doesn't look like it will happen this year. They said on ESPN today Pelicans may use that money they are saving to sign Kyle Lowry at $25-$30 million a year. Great sign a guy that's gonna be 36 this year on a 3 year contract for $75-90 million. If they sign Lowry and have basically what they have now Pels are at best a #6 seed in the West with no chance of winning a title. Then after this year they will be trying to dump Lowry's contract just like they did with Bledsoe this year. Will be even more hilarious if they give Lonzo Ball $20+ million a year to stay. 4 years $80+ or 5 years $100+ million. Cause Lonzo, Ingram, and Zion has worked so well at the end of games.
