I received 3 packages last year with the card in toploader/cardboard/bubble envelope. One arrived mangled with the cardboard buckled under the weight of something heavy thrown on top. It was not folded to fit my mailbox. It was not run over by a vehicle. The seller recycled the cardboard from a used shipping box so I'm sure that didn't help.
If it had been a valuable card, the seller would have been out the cash because the card was bent in half. You can repeat until the cows come home that your method is foolproof. I say judicious use of boxes to ship some cards is a good way to manage risk. Your sarcasm doesn't change this fact.

Cardboard is cardboard.
I ship anything $200+ in a small flat rate box, but I guess if something under that amount can't make it to my buyer sandwiched between 2 chunks of cardboard and a bubble mailer, I will have to eat it.
