College greatness and NFL star are not always the same thing. I remember several great college QBs who never translated to NFL star:
Tebow
Mariota
RGIII
Leinart
Crouch
Quinn
Mayfield
Murray
Bradford
V. Young
I’m not saying Bennett nor Young will be NFL busts, but percentages aren’t in the side of both of them becoming stars. What Bennett did at UGA is amazing, and a phenomenal story in all of NCAA history, but as amazing as he was in BTB seasons, he only finished top 10 Heisman 1 time.
Many NFL stars, and HOF even, didn’t win a Heisman so I don’t put alot of stock in that award.
Winning championships is a great measure of success in the NFL, but no one considers Jim Plunkett nor Eli Manning ATG great QBs (some may argue for Manning). Plunkett did win a Heisman, whereas Manning finished 3rd in voting).
The list below shows QBs with a combined 19 SBs wins between them, but none of them won the Heisman trophy:
Patrick Mahomes
Peyton Mamning
Dan Marino
John Elway
Ben Roethlisberger
Joe Montana
Tom Brady
Terry Bradshaw
A great example is Archie Griffin and Walter Payton.
Griffin finished 3 straight years as a Heisman:
5th place Sophomore yr
1st Junior yr
1st Senior yr
Walter Payton never made the top 10. Not once.
We all know Payton became an NFL icon while Griffin never amounted to much in the NFL.
