It's easier when you have defined lines. If anything, I'd love to see baseball start with using that tech for fair/foul calls. They show the balls being tracked in computer animations now, I have no clue why they want to risk a ball going over the foul pole and just leaving it up the the human eye to make a call and it being reviewed by camera angles that can't possibly say for certain.
