Got a call from the High School to see if I wanted to be present and give away the Scholarship we give away for kids going into Early Childhood Education.

I told them I had written something but I doubt it would be appreciated.

I relayed the last time I did the presentation in person

Pre pandemic and one year during my little speech something my mother in law, who was a teacher said.

Someone who calls themselves an Educator put the emphasis on themself.
Someone who calls themselves a Teacher puts the emphasis on the students.

A couple of the teachers came up to me after the assembly and liked what I said. I heard unofficially that some of the EDUCATORS were not happy with what I said.

When I told the head of guidance this she told me to send what I wanted to say.

It is all based on my daughter, who is generally considered one of the 3 best teachers in her school, not having a job next year because of the number of years worked.

My presentation was going to say to do something you love but remember life is not fair.
Do something that rewards you on merit, not time worked.

If the something you love is a position that is collectively bargained, like teaching, merit and being very good at your job, will mean nothing in the long run except to you and the children you teach and have an impact on. When belts have to be tightened it doesn't matter how good you are only how long you have been employed.

The head of guidance thanked me for my honesty but thought it wasn't a good idea for me to say that. I agreed.
