I am seeing a LOT of new Ohtani signed material popping up here in Japan. More than I have seen in the previous 10 years combined.
Speaking to the Kanji auto, since these first appeared back in 2018, I have always had my concerns about the potential for a wipe and re-resign given the massive premium these fetch. I would also add that I have the same concerns about many other cards from other players with inscriptions that could have easily been added after the fact.
I would do a lot of due diligence, and not lay out any big money until I had some sort of official confirmation from the issuer (Topps in this case) that the card was originally signed in that manner. Note that PSA only authenticates the card, NOT the autograph, so a wipe and resign would be very easy to get graded, but leave the buyer exposed with no guarantee on the auto.
