By raw population count, there are more end collectors for Pokemon cards than sports cards at the moment. That's just the sheer pissed truth of it, and it drives why the shows are moving the way they're moving.
There are more true whales in the sports card world, because the sports card hobby skews older than the Pokemon hobby, and older is wealthier. But if your core business is buying a card for $25 and selling it for $35, it's way, way, waaaay easier to do that selling Pokemon cards than sports cards now - there are just more people that want to transact in that territory.
