How come Kobe, curry, lebrons cards don’t go flat, as they won’t get to MJs level? Mahomes is one of , if not the biggest name in American sports presently…card prices don’t always align with championships alone
I'll try and answer this, at least in some sort of way. I think Mahomes is in a unique position from the other 3. With the other 3 names you mentioned, total championships accumulated is less relevant. Lebron lived up to all expectations and is objectively a top 2 player all time (in most people's eyes). Kobe is an all time great with a cult following and it's fair to say his cards have been elevated by his untimely death. Curry was never touted as a goat, so the hobby didn't see him chasing Jordan in that capacity. He made his own lane.

As for Mahomes - he was cursed by getting really hot during the Covid boom, at a time where hobby speculation really started in earnest. Lebron, Kobe, and Curry were from a "different" era in which their cards were priced in real time based on current achievements. Mahomes won 3 SB'S quickly and as such, his cards went nuclear and future achievements were baked into the price. Values reflect(ed) him as the heir to Brady who may win 6+ SB's. To me his cards won't fall flat, but if his career ends with 3 SB's then yeah the market would have to re-price his cards. Championships are not the end all be all, but for Mahomes they do play a disproportionately large role in his hobby value, IMO. At least for a 3+ year period there was an opportunity for upside in Mahomes, nowadays the hyped players have GOAT prices baked in before they play a single game (see - Wemby).
