There's a reason that a retired number is the highest honor a team can bestow upon a player. Having official semi-retired and kind of retired numbers would take away from that.

25 was great. He was on of my favorite Wings too. But his number's not going to get retired. If it's not going to be retired, why screw around and semi retire it? What's the point? I didn't see him pick a new number when he went to play for Calgary. Likewise, the Wings aren't going to hang it from the rafters.
