I don't see it -- the college game is a lot different than MLB. There is a reason why this has never happened before.

I think this move screams of desperation on the part of the Giants and Buster Posey. They have been mired in a protracted stretch of .500 baseball and are trying to shake things up to get better results. Vitello is a complete outsider to MLB and the Giants hope he can bring new ideas and ways of doing things. But the downside risk is that he'll be learning on the job, trying to get acclimated to the big leagues.

A lot of teams are diminishing the value of the manager and the coaching staff. We’ll see more random stuff like this on occasion. The front office exerting more and more control. Look at the Marlins staff. It’s full of “who?”
