Looks like the Brewers may be willing to trade Matt LaPorta to get C.C.Sabathia. I'm Sure the Rays will also come up with a big prospect package

I hate the idea of trading LaPorta and some of our other prospects for a rental who might only get us 2-3 more wins for the rest of the year, but it looks like it's going to happen. There is just no place for LaPorta to play here anytime soon, and he's a RH power hitter which we have plenty of. Plus we'd pick up quite a few (likely 4) first round picks when we lose CC and Sheets at the end of the season, so it's not all bad.

Trade makes sense for both teams. Cleveland needs power and Brewers need the pitching if they want the playoffs.

Looks like this deal is done. CC for Laporta, Green and someone else, possibly Braddock or Brantley.
This should definitely lead to Laporta getting more playing time sooner with the Indians than he would have here with the Brewers. |

ESPN said something about there some stipulation to the deal. That if Sabathia doesn't resign with them that some condtional draft picks would come into play. Doesnt really sound like that bad of a deal to me.

if the brewers were to get cc and did nto resign with them then the brewers would get the team that cc signs with 1st round pick unless its in the top 15 (top 15 protected) and a supp. round draft pick, a pick in between the first and second rounds

as an indians fan, this deal is really good for us. We weren't going to have a chance to re-sign CC at all. He wants WAY to many years on his new contract. I completely agree with Shapiro not willing to budge any with signing a pitcher to a 5-7 year deal. Especially CC who has so far just been lucky as hell not to get hurt. CC is a true gamer on the mound and will do whatever is possible to get an out even if that means he has to stand in the way of the ball or throw his bare hand out there to catch it. And with his weight issues that he is unwilling to try and make better, we are better off with this trade. Laporta looks good on paper but until you get to the majors I don't count my chickens before they hatch. So we will see. But if he does put up the numbers that he did in the minors, this will be great for the tribe next year. This also gives us a little room for more trading since we will then have way to many OF. With Grady locking down CF, then Gut, Choo, Dellucci, Laporta (saying we dont send him to Buffalo right away), and Francisco will battle for the last two spots. And just to throw another loop for us, we have to see what we do with Blake since he is always an OF option and having a hell of a year but out of a contract after this season. This will all be interesting to watch but overall I am very happy.
