Bought a 2016 chevy malibu lt about a month and a half ago. Pretty much sonce i bought it, i have been hearing a weird clicking noise when i lightly push the brakes. But if i push more firmly on the brakes the clicking noise isnt there.
I was just sitting in my driveway with my car both in park, and turned off, and just barely pushing on the brake pedal i can hear something lightly click. Does anybody have any clue as to what that might be? There are no warning signs on my dashboard or anything like that, this is why its puzzling to me. Any help would be very greatly appreciated because the dealership acted as if they didnt have the time of day for me when i was on the phone with them |

Sounds like a loose caliper but if youre turning at the same time and its a front wheel drive could be cv axles.

I agree with the loose caliper - no issues.

Are we talking about the same AAA? OP said he has State Farm. From their site: "Get Roadside Assistance State Farm™ provides towing and labor services when your vehicle is disabled." I'm assuming OP would rather not drive to the shop himself for fear of faulty brakes.

Loose calipers are possible, someone forgot to reinstall the pad springs or installed them incorrectly, somebody used either way too little or way too much grease, if you can isolate which wheel it's coming from just take it apart (4 bolts, 2 pads and you're done) and just examine it. Brakes on normal cars are not complicated.

Where is the noise coming from? The pedal area or out by one of the wheels?

Hey Kyle,
I know you are up in concord. The guys at American Break Service were always good to me. They used to be on the corner of east side drive and London rd (where the CVS is, across from the red Apple). Now they are more towards the other side of town. Down the street from your work at the corner of pleasant and.....State street I believe. It's across from the court house and diagonally across from Remys. In any event, I haven't been there since they changed locations but they were always good to me when I had my Mazda. |

To be honest, my guess is nothing is wrong with the car. To me it just sounds like the PRNDL release. To test my theory, sit in the driveway and press down on the brake until you hear the noise. At that moment, if I'm correct, you'd be able to move the gear selector. Put it back in park and push down on the brake until you hear the click, then lift up a little bit, and you shouldn't be able to move the gear selector. From my experiences, I don't think a loose caliper would fit the description of what you have given.
