So looking around on comc and found something interesting on some of the 1986 McDonald's Los Angeles Raiders Marcus Allen cards (as opposed to the 1986 McDonald's All-Star Marcus Allen).
Here is one of them.... ![]() But here is a one with a black line across the top... ![]() And one with a red line across the top... ![]() So, was wondering, anybody know if the line versions were in fact released this way and any why/who like information? Perhaps it is the top card in the sheet?

I just checked my 117 pieces. I have 16 pieces with the line you speak of. Most are blue or red. All but 3 are solid lines. Are a few with broken lines. I would guess that they might be a variety of some sort, but I don't believe a major premium exists. At least at this time. What may be of interest is the list of names where this line occurs. In mine the breakdown is thus and only affected these players: 1-Adams,3-Benson,1-Bavaro,3-Ard,3-Carpenter,2-Burt. So the printing process may have only affected certain players based on their location on the sheet. Just a guess here. The 117 I have are a large selection of different players so it seems odd that only these players were affected. Hope this helps a bit. Of note all of the players so far have last names that begin with A,B, or C.

I think those lines are just printer lines. There are four variation of the tab at the bottom that would have been scratched off for a prize (Black, Blue, Gold, and Green--with Green being the most rare). I have all of the Broncos in all four variations and a few have those lines as well.

Thanks guys. That confirms it is on other cards, common enough it appears to be a true variation in my opinion, rather then a printing production error...like excess ink. And yes, I understand it doesn't add any value in them. It rarely does in baseball, where a small group look for these things. I don't imagine there is any interest in general in football.
Not exactly sure what you mean by printer lines PTS, but yes, they do appear to have been caused during the printing. They do not appear to be cutting guidelines, but perhaps if we saw a full sheet it would explain them better. Like maybe half the cards in the sheet are upside down. I imagine the color rarity might be different from the different teams (we are talking the team sets and not the very common all-star). From my experience the green was the most common with the Buccaneers (with Steve Young's RC).

Cut lines....common in McDs, Post, Kellogs, and the oddballs. Old XEROX printers and other old tech machines.

Usually cut lines are closer to where they cut...not that this means they are not, but the lines do not seem to ever appear at the top edge, but rather a 1/4 inch down. Its likely more the edge of the card design (?), which did not take in account the paper used.
I am one of those that collect the different plate variations of cards...so these things kind of interest me. I tried to see how many coupon/prize variations of Young I could get a few years ago, but found the scratch off stuff impossible to remove cleanly now.

Once again the early alphabet names seem to get a preference for the line. (Also, I had about 50 Steve Youngs and none of them had it.)
So okay, I will agree it is likely the top of the sheet....and possibly, the sheet had more then one set, which is why some cards do not have it all. Multiple players on a sheet makes sense with the promotion itself as well. They had a game match up for the following week, and if team A won, then you got this, and if team B won, you got something else...if I remember right. I think some made you buy something. They would have had to print a few of the rare prize cards, which would should/may lead to a few variations like the John Harris mentioned (?). Thanks again guys
