I'm getting ready to send in my first batch of cards to COMC. I know it takes a few weeks to get them listed, etc. So I'm willing and ready to wait. But it's cards (game used, autos, refractors, inserts, HOFers, etc.) I'm going to list for like 25 cents just to move them.
I've got them sleeved and boxed up and ready to go to COMC. The only question I have is this. Do I pay for them now? Or do I want and pay when they get listed? I know some of them are from 2018, so they're priced differently than 2017 and older. I even have a few vintage cards in there I'm sending. Again, it's just stuff I want to get rid of and trade them for a nice vintage card or something for one of my older sets. So that's the only question I have. Otherwise, I have them sleeved and in a box and am about to put a label on it.

Don't do what? Send cards in? Or send in lower end cards? Or what?

Yeah I agree. May want to rethink it for a minute. 2018 break down and send in as current year basic. It will still cost 30 cents per. The older stuff send in trading cards basic and it will still cost 30 cents each. You'd be better off dumping the quarter cards elsewhere because doing it the way it sounds like you're doing it is paying someone to take your cards. AKA spending $300 to make $100.

Thanks for the tip. I don't really use COMC. In fact, I just got a shipment of about 50 or so cards in. Most had been sitting in my ready to ship file for months or even a year or more.
But I'll go to the quarter section and see what I can find. Quote:
I didn't realize it was 30 cents per. Guess I would have to list them at 35-40 cents. Crap. Let me take a look and see which will sell for that. As I said, I'm just getting rid of them and moving them into some type of vintage card. Even if I sell the for 10 cent profit, I'm sending 400 or so in. So I'd make $40 and can use that to buy a star vintage card I need. Quote:
I'd have to pay 2 sepearte shipping charges right? Or just send in 1 batch and designate which are to which? As I said, I don't care if I make 10 cents per card. At least I make something and can use it for something worthwhile instead of just taking up space or tossing out, which is my other option. Quote:

I agree with all the advice given. Don't send it the cheap stuff to make a quarter, you will lose. Been there, done that! Also realize that even if you might be able to make a quarter now and if there are too many copies of the card on site, it will be a race to the bottom.

I will give you $10 in COMC store credit if you throw your cards in the recycling bin.
Just reprice a card at $10 and send me the link and then show a picture of your cards in the recycling bin. Last edited by mjohnatgt; 05-13-2018 at 08:37 PM. |

I don't have any cards listed on COMC at this point. I have never sent any in, and I just got my shipment in the other day of all the cards I had bought over the years.
It's really no big deal anyway as no one has even answered my question that I started this whole thing for. I'll figure out pricing when I get them listed and ready to sell. Depends on what kind of mood I'm in. But the biggest thing I needed to know is do I need to send a MO with the order or wait until they're all uploaded and ready to go and send a paypal payment?

Its one thing to send in a few cards that will sell for less than submission you can make it up on other cards in the sub, but sending a full sub that way will kill you.
YOu can send cards at different service levels in the same package if you choose to do so YOu will need some credit for the first ones to be added. They will be added in clusters and you will have to pay for each cluster as they are uploaded. Once you have credit in there you are usually safe from ever having to send more in. Used to be they would allow you to go into negative but they stopped that a while back. What I did on the account I am using now, I sent in 20 cards that would go in to 10 dollar range via modern select at 60cents each and added 10.00 via Paypal. They popped and most sold quickly I had around 100.00 in the account and have never had to add a dime since. Last edited by shrevecity; 05-13-2018 at 08:55 PM. |

Thanks for this information. That's what I was looking for. I am sending in a couple of other cards that should bring in $5-$10 (a couple of extra Tyrell Jenkins autos, a Mantle AS card, a Mike Young auto, etc.). So that will help offset.
The others are just stuff I can't move at neither the LCS nor here. So they're sitting there collecting dust. If I can get something for them (10 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, $1, whatever), I'm just going to use it to buy more vintage for my sets. So thanks everyone for the tips and advice. It's been very helpful, and I'll definitely look over what I'm sending in to make sure it's going to net me at least something. Quote:

I did actually. I can't remember where I post or when I post sometimes if it's not my thread. At least I can see what threads I've started. If I couldn't do that, I'd really be up a creek without a boat. Just part of getting old I guess, haha.

Be sure to check a few. I know there are people who think a card is worth a quarter only to realize there's 42 of them on comc for 7 cents. I know what you want to do, I'm doing the same thing, it's great to get "free money" from junk so just make sure you have enough that will sell to cover not only your submission costs but also your shipping costs. It's not like you're thinking, you hear all the great stuff in a centrally located area (here) but you dont hear of the hundreds of cards that sit there and never sell. It's kind of like the flipping thread - you hear of all these great flips for $1000 in profit but you dont here they spent $2000 in cards that re still sitting there.

Besides the .30 listing fee, also consider you will need to ship your cards to them and over time storage fees after 90 days began .01, so think more like .35 per card. Here's the other kicker, the first time a card gets listed there is a .25 listing fee that yes gets paid by the buyer technically, it will price your quarter card .25 higher than others on the site that have been flipped already and will not have that higher cost built in. Also, don't forget your original acquisition cost for your card, I'm sure your quarter card cost you .05 or .10 originally or whatever. Additionally, your plan to buy a "nice" card with your money made is harder set than done as most of these are overpriced at COMC. So if you cash out, which may happen, you are hit with another 20% fee. Back to the immediate topic at hand....
So for example. Let's take a $1.00 card, we'll say a EX condition 1975 Topps Rod Carew. Let's say you got a good deal on it at .25 You send it in for .30 + .05 to ship/possible storage fee, + your acquisition card we'll say .25, then the initial .25 listing fee, and let's ASSUME you get a buyer to pay $1.00 .75 + .25 listing fee. You've now pocketed .10 on this dollar card you bought for .25. If you would cash out you would actually lose money .10 to be exact. AND this assumes you don't select the eBay/amazon option so that would actually be ANOTHER 20% off. In short, there are millions of dollar cards that SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SENT TO COMC if this simple math is understaood please don't add to the pile!!!!! |

This is one reason I'm getting frustrated at COMC. As I buyer I'm paying a dollar for a card the seller is getting .10 of it. As I'm a buyer of mainly commons and cheap cards. Plus trying to find cards The new sorting set up is helpful but just going through 1000s of cards that I have that's way to long. The sellers have to add in to their asking price: their cost of card, shipping to , processing fee, profit, check out fee, Then I get hit with .25 handling per card plus 3.99. (that is .04 if I ship 100 cards as I do). Yes I get 5.00 for next month but that makes me buy more cards. I was told a while back that they would love to get rid of all the cards under 1.00 but it was almost impossible with the shipping cost, He stated they would like to just sell cards over 2.00 value and get out of the common business.

I am unfamiliar with any such fee. Any card which COMC ships will incur a handling charge of 25 cents. However, if you are looking at the prices in "Advanced Reseller Mode", you will not see the fee, and you will not pay the fee until you ship. If you look at the site in "Simplified Shipping Mode" (which is the default), you will pay the fee as you buy the card. However, COMC does not add a fee the first time your item sells. If you are looking in Simplified Shipping Mode, you pay the fee when you buy the item. If you are looking in Advanced Reseller Mode, you pay the fee when you have the item shipped. |

Just to add to some of the information that is being distributed in this thread, our Customer Service Team strongly urges anyone making a first time submission to do some homework and glance over the prices of some of items already on the site that you are considering sending in. We always recommend that you only submit items that you can price to sell for at least $1 or more.
To improve your experience if you intend to submit thousands of cards to sell through COMC, we recommend that you comb through your submission and only send the best or most expensive 100-300 cards initially. Once you began generating sales and build up store credit from your initial batch, you should be able to submit more items in bulk without having to worry about a large out-of-pocket up front cost of consignment fees. |

"Once you began generating sales and build up store credit from your initial batch, you should be able to submit more items in bulk without having to worry about a large out-of-pocket up front cost of consignment fees. "
This also will help on If you plan to cash out. Spending credit for processing fee (get 20% more) then out of pocket payment then cashing out. COMC James I think the site could explain things a little better. As you see there are a lot of posts here about sending in cards to the site.
