Default 2018 Prizm Tiger Stripe Print Run Revealed

Ran a little experiment to find the print run of the 2018 Tiger Stripe Prizm and figured I'd share the results here in case anyone was interested.

I took the 2018 Tiger Prizm plus 3 relevant numbered 2018 Prizm parallels of 10 of the top 2018 rookies, and found the total number of PSA/BGS submissions per card. The parallels used were the Tiger, Blue Ice /99, Orange /49, and the Mojo /25. The rookies used were Luka, SGA, Trae, Brunson, MPJ, Ayton, Simons, Bridges, Jackson Jr, and Sexton.

Used that data to find the average submission rate across each players 3 numbered parallels, relative to each print run. I then applied the ratio towards each players respective Tiger Prizm to get each players estimated Tiger print run.

I then averaged each players estimated tiger print run to arrive at 68.51

Data points to there being approximately 65-70 Tigers per player in 2018.

Cool thing is, it's still around that. From independent 20-21 research.

And the high valuations means it looks nice.

I always thought they were rarer than that. Oh well, I’ll know not to overpay for one.

This feels...imprecise...to say the least. I'd be interested to see the data (science nerd). Is the submission rate relative to print run consistent for the three numbered parallels?

Actually, I lied. I put the '20-21 tiger stripe at around 40-50. Could they have actually have gone down in print run as they became more collected?

What if people kept cracking and resubmitting to get that elusive 10?

By the time '20-21 rolled around weren't they put in Prizm Choice? The circular holo pattern seems to indicate....

Did Choice exist back in 2018? Would Tiger SSPs be seeded at roughly the same case hit rarity level, just in a more limited premium product, and thus have a lower print run?

That’s exactly what makes this so imprecise. There seems to be so many confounding variables that prevent the ability to make any sort of valid claim

So the cracks and resubmissions are exactly why I used 3 rare/popular parallels of the same products rookie cards - to gauge the likelihood of resubmissions per player for their rare/popular parallels. For example, Luka's submission rate is 147.61%, clearly showing how people try to crack his cards, which puts the estimated print run on his Tigers at 73.2, relative to his other cards. Jaren Jackson Jr has a submission rate of only 84.47%, yet when we apply his submission rate to his number of Tigers submitted, we arrive at the same (or very close to it) 73.5. After applying the data to the 10 mentioned players, it averaged out to 68.51 per player.

I understand this type of data isn't set in stone - just sharing for others that may appreciate the perspective. If anyone has any suggestions to optimize it, I'd love to hear it - always appreciate learning something new.

I love the tiger stripe + nebula pattern holo, as with the Prizm Draft Crusade. But the Choice crop circle pattern holo leaves me dry.

Hoping to turn this into a Tiger flex thread.

This is not a revelation, it's just a deduction and there's no way to prove or disprove it

You can't do that though as the resubmission only happens on unnumbered card. Numbered cards cant be resubmitted because it will get the same grade as it's predecessors

So you are saying tiger stripes are popular enough to resubmit and are unnumbered, so they can be resubmitted. Therefore you'd expect a higher pop count for lower print run.

If numbered cards can’t be resubmitted, explain to me how Luka’s Orange Prizm /49 has been graded by BGS/PSA 90 times. Almost half of all 30 numbered parallels have been graded by BGS/PSA more than they are numbered to.

Because some people have more money than sense. It will get exactly the same grade

I ripped a case of 2018 Prizm Choice in the summer of 2019 that I paid about $2k for. Didn't hit a single Luka or Trae card, but got a few nice SGAs that I sold way too early.

I think those cases were going for like $60-70k during the covid bubble.
