Default 2024 Cincinnati Reds

v. RHP

1B - Candelario
2B - McLain
SS - EDLC
3B - Marte
LF - Steer/Fraley
CF - Friedl
RF - Fraley/Benson
DH - CES

v. LHP
1B - Candelario
2B - India
SS - McLain
3B - Marte
LF - Steer
CF - Friedl
RF - Fairchild
DH - CES

- I think India/CES/Fraley will be a timeshare at DH v RHP
- EDLC was good v RHP (.799 OPS), but unless he gets better v LHP I think he risks losing time there
- I think Steer, Fraley, and Benson will all split time pretty equally in the corner OF v RHP
- Fairchild is probably the only obvious weak point, but I also don’t think he’s egregiously awful (and he might only be temporary until Blake Dunn is ready)
- I expect lots of mixing and matching in the lineup (personally I think this is a good thing)
- Almost every guy on the roster can play multiple positions, which is great for in-game substitutions. Just because a guy isn’t in the starting lineup doesn’t mean he can’t contribute
- Go Reds

The two year deal was a good idea especially if they plan to use him as trade bait at the AS Break. Easier to trade if he is not a rental!

Saying that, India probably gets about 50% playing time right away and that will increase/decrease depending on how the young guys play. He is not taking ABs from Elly, McLain, Steer, CES, Marte, Stephenson, or Fiedl unless warranted. He is a liability in the field too.

I bet by May 1st we see India very little in the lineup unless there is an injury.

I don’t think Fairchild will be a regular starter (even in a platoon). There’s too much value in trying to get other guys more regular ABs which may already be a struggle. Fairchild is a solid option as a bench bat, can fill in the OF whenever they need someone to, just don’t think they’ll pencil him in as a regular option. I could even see Benson getting some starts against lefties

Every day is going to be an "experiment" with that dpsht manager Bell in there. No one will have any clear defined roles, there won't be any kind of consistency. Same ole, same ole until they get dpsht out of there.

His potential is tantalizing. If his late season improvements stick at all he could be a monster.

Raise your hand if you had Nick Martini with the first 2 home runs for the Reds this year.
