Haaland and Mbappe both are decent choices, but they suffer from opposite problems.

Haaland plays for a small country that has trouble qualifying for major international tournaments....so his ceiling is probably that of a Weah/Giggs/Bale/Lewandowski, i.e. a terrific club level player who is unlikely to have the type of impact on a major international tournament that elevates a player to "all-time great" level.

Mbappe has the opposite problem....he plays for a country that has so many good players that they're expected to contend in every tournament they play and his contributions to team success often get overlooked.

Haaland needs to have a "Stiochkov/Hagi/Suker"-type international tournament where he drags Norway to an unexpectedly good result. Either that or lead Dortmund to unexpected success. Once he moves to a bigger club, he will start to get less credit for his achievements.

Mbappe needs to dominate an international tournament, and/or win multiple Champions League titles.

What if Haaland transfers this Summer to Manchester United?

What about it?

Man Utd are Europa League challengers these days and they haven't won a trophy for nearly seven years, and the league for nearly ten.

They already have Cavani, Ronaldo, Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Sancho.. adding another striker isn't going to magically fix their deep set rot and malaise. Haaland, his greedy dad and his cancerous agent would be daft to set him up with a move there, when he could parachute into Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool and instantly be winning trophies.

What Ronaldo and Messi have done is the exception rather than the rule and it might well be we go a while without a single player (or two) being as dominant. For example from 1990 to 2007 we had a different Ballon d'Or winner every year, bar a repeat for Ronaldo Nazario That's the other extreme and is also unlikely. I can see bunch of different players being in the mix for honours and things will ebb and flow depending on club and country fortunes.

I personally wouldn't say the next great but definitely a possibility. Anyone that hasn't been paying attention to what Vinicius is doing this season has their head in the sand. I don't think he's Messi, CR7 level but he's really exciting to watch play. He's been embarrassing right backs all season this year with some absolutely filthy dribbling and he's really addressed his issues from last season with being unable to finish goals.

If Real Madrid do add Mbappe as expected those two will be exciting to watch for sure.

Very hard to tell. They will leave a hole which is very difficult to fill.
Many of those records are pretty much unbeatable.
There is a lot of young talent out there, but matching the greatness of those two and all the trophies they won, will be hard.
I also do like Haaland and Mbappe and they will both do great, but must start winning trophies soon and also stay healthy!

The best bet in Soccer card wise are still the Goats. Basketball has a lot of Goats like MJ, Kobe, LeBron, Russell, Chamberlain, Magic, Bird etc who all dominated their era and were winning successfully.

In Soccer it comes down to these two in terms of success. Add a little Pelé and Maradona and that’s about it.

Time to prove for Haaland, Mbappe and company

Not like this.
They'll never have the longevity, the same perfect situations, injury free, etc.

There's only been 3 players in the history to have 6 straight 40 goal total club seasons.

Think of the players they were surrounded by at Real/Barca. That's not happening again.

I only own Messi and CR7 cards, but I am rooting for the next generation to succeed. Once those two retire, the new blood will hopefully continue to carry the hobby. It has a positive impact on the GOAT prices - we saw this in basketball where Doncic, Giannis, etc. prices appeared to be pushing up MJ/LeBron/Kobe prices due to inevitable comparison.

Lewandowski is better than Messi/Ronaldo the last 6 years anyway. Lot of his cards are up 1000% + but still room to grow.

Harry Kane is having a terrible year but he'll be EPL all time scorer and England's all time scorer.

Haaland will probably have a longer career than Mbappe.

Kane will finish with only an Audi cup to his name

There's more to life than trophies for some players. Of course they are bloody nice, but loyalty should be applauded too. Shearer (and Kane) could have won the lot if they wanted.

Sadly, it's another factor slowly getting eroded from the game as it's further sanitised and packaged as Corporation Football, the playground of the Super Agent™ and social media clout means more than actual community involvement.

Not really hard to win cups if you play for a top team.

No one will care about 99% of players in the future that played on City/Chelsea and won bunch of cups.

You have to stand out, break meaningful records.
