Default Michael Jordan investment cards

I love Jordan but I don't have any cards. I'm looking to buy a PSA 8 to 9 higher endish cards. What do you guys think would be best ? I really like the 1988 fleer because he's doing that iconic dunk. That for sure i want now i want maybe one or 2 more should i just go for 1989 fleer next? Or should I get the 1996 (fleer remake of the 86) because that's a iconic card? When getting a rookie remake is the 1996 the best version of it? I see these gold ones too are those just a gimic?

I love his 1988 Fleer All-Star card - actually just got this one back from PSA recently:

I figured it would only garner an 8 at most due to centering, but with its value rising recently, it's still worthy of a slab.

Start with his rookie in the grade you can afford and slowly work your way up to the higher end versions 8-9. 10s are 6 figures I don’t know your bank roll.

Right, because you started out as a level 6000 master investor. Don't be a pretentious prick. At least he's coming to a forum where he can gain guidance rather than just throwing darts (money) in the dark?

OK invest in a Rookie Low grade is even fine to start... Stay away from anything after 1988 Base wise unless limited. DONT buy any Base from 1990 and beyond for the most part even PSA 10 they might go up over time but I doubt it I think PSA and BGS are loaded with 9s and 10s that are going to be exploding on the market as everyone sent in their base 1990 Hoops cards during the Last dance Craze and you can still find cases everywhere.Look for some of the more rare insert sets from the 90s they are already pretty high but can go higher, but really who knows it is a gamble...But have fun...INvestment wise almost always GO FOR THE RC.......I personally think his second year card has some room to grow.

No moron.

I collected what I LIKED and didn't worry about INVESTMENTS.

There are better investments out there. These threads keep coming and are a joke.

Not everyone has to do it exactly like you, you know that right? What brings OP enjoyment may be different than what brings you enjoyment, I know that's a hard concept for some

This works better if you provide a price range. A PSA 9 1997 PMG is a swell card to "invest" in but so few have that sort of capital.

I have studied great collectors of art, coins, cards, cars... etc

Common themes

Buy what you find aesthetically appealing and attractive. Something you can live with for years.
Buy what you can afford with no concern for downside.

For cards I would add...

Buy graded... condition is always key
Buy a duplicate if possible.
Flip the dupe in 5 years

In 20 years you will have a nice collection that you can enjoy esthetically and possibly financially benefit.

Yeah, that kind of lines up with my thinking. I try to buy what I like, with the thought in the back of my head will I be ok if this card(s) somehow lost all value at some point? That helps me figure out whether a purchase is ok for me to make or not. I'm a bit boring in that I tend to collect blue-chippers like Kobe/Lebron, and wouldn't mind adding some rarer Jordan inserts. I think the floor on some of the nicer stuff of Jordan/Kobe/Bron should remain relatively solid even with market corrections.

Look at the OP Username.
Look at the OP Join Date.
Look at their previous posts.

OP is most likely a sneakerboi that “found” their joy for collecting again. Or hes on his 2nd or 3rd account at BO.

Any card in today's market is probably the riskiest and worst investment you can make. The prices have already hit all time highs and making money will be impossible IMO. You will need to buy and pay 10% above value to cover shipping and taxes. When you sell you will need to pay 15% in eBay fees to sell at the highest price. So to make a small profit the card needs to go up by 30%. Plus whatever profits you make you will have to pay 30%ish taxes on. So to make a few bucks your card will need to increase in price by 50%. Does this sound like a good investment?

I mean your first 2 points are valid but you have to pay taxes on pretty much anything you do in life that generates profit so I don't really think that should be counted.

Just making the point that a card needs to go up 40 to 50% to make any profit. However the majority of flippers don't think they need to pay taxes on cards. 1099K forms will be my entertainment next year.
