Buyer has already left positive feedback so looked to be legit. Hope it went to a PC and not a flipper. What are cards you've found that weren't listed correctly on Ebay that you've gotten good deals on?

Mislabeled and poorly labeled sales happen all the time on ebay. Great way to find good deals that hopefully the seller honors (they usually do in my experience)

100% guaranteed it went to a flipper. Flippers live for bad listings like this one

Seller had zero feedback at the time of the sale. Add to that the card wasn't correctly labeled. That's enough to scare most folks away.

I mostly see cards listed the opposite... says refractor and it's a base

The even more frustrating situations are when you are sure something is so poorly labeled and ending at some awkward time that you are sure you will get a good deal... and then when the auction ends the price is no discount at all... one of these occurred to me over the weekend.
One last evening was during trick or treating time, and being sold by a (0) feedback seller... I was sure I would get a deal and take on the risk it isn't shipped. But it actually finished higher than the last four sales of the same card.

I've gotten incredible deals on cards of a very prominent football/soccer player due to the same spelling error.
That's the only situation where I enjoy the horrendous spelling, grammar and punctuation that occurs constantly online. |

I got a nice mid grade 71 Clemente for cheap because the seller labeled it Reberto Clemente.

I got 7 Buster Posey wrapper redemption refractors along with another 200 or so from the set, Strasburg, all the HoF guys, etc. for opening bid of $199 on eBay. No players were in the title of the auction. All 7 Poseys came back 10s. Big score on that one!

This wasn't a spelling error. This was just mislabeled, so it didn't show in a refractor search

Where do you guys draw your ethical line in the sand?
I never seek out misspellings on purpose for profit. I would never want to make a deal for ~10% of card value. I often message sellers about errors in their listings, even if I'm not interested. I want a fair playing field as much as reasonable if it looks like honest mistakes. These are just my personal guidelines. I have no issue with others trying to profit from listing mistakes. But I don't think it's something anyone should be proud of.

If I dont need or want the card and I see someone making a mistake, I'll reach out and give them a heads up. Gotta even out that sweet sweet karma.

Your probably being sarcastic. But I don't like people finding gross mistakes in listings for profit. All I was trying to convey.
But alot of people here treat it like a poker game to find all the edges for profit. I come at a different angle buying PC cards.

Haha. A little contradictory to myself. Emphasis on the word "gross" in second statement. But don't ask me to define that!

It's one thing if it's the proverbial grandma selling an Action Comics #1 at a yard sale for $5, which doesnt happen.
When it comes to ebay 'steals', be it by seller not knowing, listing mistakes, etc...eh I dont really have a problem with it. The buyer is playing by the rules, not breaking them. The seller's job is to know what they have/list correctly. There is a value to knowledge, and the buyer, having the knowledge, is rewarded for it. Also rewarded for putting in time to search listings and finding them quick, etc. On the seller's end, they put up a something for a price they wanted, and got a sale at the price they wanted, so in theory they should be satisfied. I also think you win some, you lose some. I've gotten good deals plenty of times, I've also let things go for pretty big steals looking back. What is more unethical imo, and actually not playing by the rules, is someone noticing on sold listings a steal for X and messaging the seller 'cancel and sell to me for 2X'. As a seller, if I got this message from anyone after a sale, I'd never entertain it.

Looks like someone is going to use this listing as a comp at a card show this weekend.

Needless to say I no longer alert sellers to deficiencies in their listings and haven’t done so in several years. The best for people just not doing their homework is Allen and Ginter listings where sellers just don’t keep up with the market, especially on the oddball cards. I’ve bought and resold about 6 Paige Spiranac auto cards with the best being a buy at $15 on comc and selling at $75. There was another listing that was just horrible…a guy listed an A&G partial mini set(330/350) along with over 90 mini inserts. Auction went for $19 plus $16 shipping. Actual value was around $200. |
