Default Would a legit hobby cards store sell re-packed hobby boxes?

And risk their business being shut down? Anyone heard of something like that happening?

I suspect it would be pretty hard to "prove" an offense to law enforcement. It would take a pretty savvy collector to understand such a claim, so good luck trying to explain what a card shop allegedly did to a police officer who does not collect cards and assumes they are just worthless pieces of cardboard for kids. At best, it would sound like sour grapes from a customer that didn't get cards he wanted (which is how the card shop would spin it). The only real "enforcement" is that collectors who have been burned by such antics will stop going to the card store and tell fellow collectors, hopefully resulting in a dramatic decrease in demand in the local market.

Ya, I wouldn't think it'd be easy to do or prove if the store was good at repacking and sealing. It'd be interesting though if something like that did indeed happen somewhere.

I just watched Probstein and PWCC do it with a Magic the Gathering starter deck. Each sold the same exact repack. Neither seemed to give a crap that they scammed the buyers either. Nature of the hobby atm so yes I believe there are plenty of obvious cheats out there taking advantage of the unsuspecting.

I doubt a business would do that regularly. Once in a while or in a financial rut? More plausible. I opened a pack around 1990 from my LCS that had another companies cards inside. Never told the owner as I felt he was duped on a purchase he made. It was the only time I had a trust issue in the 20+ years I dealt with him.

I don't know, I've bought double digits in quantity of various hobby boxes at a shop and haven't gotten much of anything in them... it's weird. Out of the double digit in baseball boxes I've bought, 1 auto and the rest were junk patch cards, the auto was junk. I opened a pack that I bought from Target and got an auto in it first box I opened... something just seems off. The prices are low, usually little lower than ebay. I don't know... could just be my "luck"

Just depends on the products you are opening.

I mean, if you opened 12 boxes of flagship Topps those results sound about right.

Higher end stuff is lucky to have 2-3 decent boxes out of 12.

Your luck at Target is abnormal.

the only worry i would have would be buying it from a distributor or one of the big 3 who purchased it "sealed" from someone who had resealed it. getting product direct from topps/panini/ud is the best way to go.

*Doesn't have a good return on investment on a baseball hobby box*
