Official RC - Stephon Castle

Seeking some help about Stephon Castle's rookie cards.

There are some 2023 cards that show him in his college uniform, but he wasn't yet a rookie. Are these considered THE rookie cards of Castle's ? Or are these considered pre-rookie cards and less desirable?

Then there are his 2024 cards that also show him in college uniform. Most listings say "rookie card". These appears to more plentiful and have more varied card options. Are these THE rookie cards? Or are these 2024 cards considered 2nd year cards ?

The closest thing to his "official" rookie card (being the most desirable) will be his prizm rookie when that drops tomorrow

In a broader sense though a rookie card is generally pro uniform only

Cards that feature the player in their pro uniform but belong to a set before their rookie year are XRCs

Looks like the 24-25 cards are his RC cards. He’s in the current hoops set as a RC . Should be in Prizm as one too.

24-25 products are official RCs. Others are pre-RCs or xRCs.

Honestly, peak outcome for Castle is SGA 2.0 (not saying Castle is the next SGA, just saying their games are similar). I think more realistically, it'd be Jimmy Butler 2.0 (but with a much better attitude).

I am a huge UConn fan and while I know his official Spurs rookie cards will be worth more over time, I believe his UConn Bowman cards will still retain value a lot better than most other college cards of players. I mean who even remembers what college Anthony Edwards played for? But UConn's fan base is pretty ravenous and lots of diehard UConn fans out there that will keep his college cards in demand.

Maybe next year Spurs can draft a bum so I can score some nice cards of him on the cheap

I did pick up his Black Friday Splash of Color Holo /50 card (in a Spurs uniform) for a pretty nice price, so at least I have that.

Every year people say the same thing that X players non pro cards will hold up in value and they never do.

After a couple years nobody will care he went to UConn besides maybe a few hardcore UConn collectors

The only real rookie card is the first year pro jersey

I think his ceiling is a tier higher than Iggy

I think Castle has the potential to be a very solid player and potentially an all star, much in the same way Garland is (however Garland started out with zero public hype or card interest). But certainly not transcendent in any fashion.

Reminds me a lot of the early Kuminga hype.

Probably one of the worst times to be buying in on him right now (unless this is for pc purchases and future price is absolutely of no concern) due to the rookie prospecting premium in addition to the recency bias with the all star weekend appearances. Lavine and B. Griffins cards peaked their rookie years when they actually won the dunk comps, despite them later improving and becoming good players.

- he's still not a good shooter
- will almost assuredly always be in the large shadows of Wemby hobby wise

Patience pays off. I know a lot of people were laying big $$ on high end Dick (pause) a few months ago riding high on his early hot season start.

Picked up some cheap rookies so far but holding off on the more expensive ones. I’m expecting the prices to come down after the hype drops. Reminds me of how high Wemby was when his Prizm first came out.

He's looked great all year but really stepping up since Wemby went out. I think All Star weekend gave him a boost. Crazy that I thought everything would be going through Fox with Wemby out but Castle has been outplaying him.

Yeah keep your eyes and money away. They are still boring so please invest elsewhere

I'm glad the squad is competing when they go out there. Keldon has stepped it up as well but Castle taking it to the next level has been the key. Even put the potential MVP on skates a couple games ago. He's going to be special once the shot comes around.

Holiday was never a contender for dunk contest. But he could have a much worse ceiling then 2x champ, 6x all defense Holiday.

If the dude can jump higher and more fancy than the rest, then so bit it and why the knock. Enjoy what he can do - entertain. Shouldn't matter white, black or other.

(college card/Bowman haters get bent lol) I had a chance to pick up a Castle Bowman U Best Masterpieces Superfractor for $500 a couple of months ago, but was haggling with the seller on eBay about what looked like a non-insignificant ding on the back of the card. When I finally negotiated $100 off the price of the card, someone had swooped in and BIN'd it from under my nose. I regret not just pulling the trigger to this day.
