I’ve been looking at cards on eBay but I can’t find much information on sets or cards that are most desirable to collect. I see a lot a 1910-20s tobacco cards and a lot of 1948 Leaf cards. The leaf cards look nice but it seems like most of the bigger names were at end of their careers or already retired by 1948 so curious if those have any value. For example would a Leaf Jack Johnson have any value with collectors or do people prefer older cards during his prime years?

1948 Leaf is collectible, but also heavily trimmed from those outed on this board. 1951 Ringside, 1900 Ogdens, and the other sets with boxing cards can be found here. Many are multi-sport that just also include some boxers.
Take a look at https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...ompany-sets/44 You'll be able to figure out which sets have the biggest following or collectability based on the number of people with sets registered. I like the N43s personally, even though there aren't a lot of people trying to put it together. Some of the British tobacco sets are just widely available because they were sold as complete sets in a box, and they stayed in nice condition because they were found still in the box and graded highly. |
