Default Here comes a bunch of sheet cut 1996-97 Chromes...

I personally hate the fact that uncut sheets are sold, because they're not the true pack released versions and should be destroyed otherwise.

But we obviously know what the people paying over $20k for the Chrome Refractors are gonna do with them...
https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...?itemid=105494

Also a base set https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...?itemid=105493

And other things like the Seasons Best + Youthquakes
https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...?itemid=105497

And 'Super Team' Mystery Finest Refractors
https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...?itemid=105498

I really don't like this. They would be cool as a novelty but nobody is paying this kind of money to NOT profit from them...

Lol. It's blow out forums.
But yeah, that chrome refractor sheet is pretty amazing as is. If I could afford it I'd leave it as is and frame it in a air tight/UV display case. I think it's just the world we live in that makes people chase profits.

As I remember, when I first found the silver Kobe, a fair number felt it came from one of those uncut Stadium Club sheets that had been cut up and sold. So there was that hurdle of authenticity to overcome. (of course it turned out that there were no silver foil anywhere. And CSG did the microscope work). Then the big guys found other reasons why they wouldn't accept it as canon.

Mainly, a new valuable card or type of collectible is seen as taking money from existing valuable cards or types of collectibles. Which is not the way I view basketball cards, as part of an expanding alternative investment market.

Basically, a certain faction would like to control what is valuable and what is not. It is particularly nice to print money and the best way is through new production. Like those Dali prints that masquerade as fine art in Vegas and are actually printed ad infinitum.

So.... if there is an emerging market for vintage uncut sheets, that is not a bad evolution. Though an extraordinary (condition/error) pack-pulled single card should always be worth more than a sheet of non-pack distributed whatever.

I don't believe the value correlates to the number of major auction houses. To your point, cards are losing value because of eBay? It's THE major 24/7 auction house and there are many in different countries.

No one cares about your card.

I thought he was referring to a Kobe Topps Chrome refractor as a silver, but then realized he was talking about his Stadium Club card. Impressive he managed to bring up that card in this thread.

I feel like he brings it or one of the other ones in most threads he comments on.
