Default At what price would you feel comfortable buying 2022 Topps Chrome?

I realize there is a very popular Topps Chrome thread, however, I thought it would be interesting to make a poll and see where people stand on the pricing right before the release.

Obviously, we would all love to buy at 2018 prices or whatever year they were "cheap", but the reality is prices aren't going to drop to $75 for a hobby box and $150 for a jumbo...ever. Even 2021 Topps Chrome is at $125 for hobby and $300 for jumbo.

At what price would you be comfortable buying hobby and jumbo boxes?

Hobby $400/Jumbo $800
Hobby $350/Jumbo $700
Hobby $300/Jumbo $600
Hobby $250/Jumbo $500
Hobby $200/Jumbo $400
Hobby $150/Jumbo $300
Hobby $100/Jumbo $200

I know pricing doesn't necessarily fit this exact format with pricing, but it is most likely somewhere close.

I'm well aware that everyone would feel most comfortable at the lowest prices, but this is more like a "I would be willing to take a chance at this price.....".

Define “comfortable”.

Some people want the contents of the box to consistently be worth more then the box itself. That’s just not how the economics of wax works these days. That being said, I wouldn’t pay more the $150 per box (not that I buy unopened wax).

$1 Bob.

I went with $100/$200. Topps Chrome is a low end set. It should be priced accordingly.

Depends on when you rip and how fast you can sell. Opening week $200. 2 months from now $80.

Comfortable might not have been the right word. I will define it as this:

If you walked into a shop or saw boxes online for $_____, you would be willing to take a chance and open them at that price.

That would be wonderful, but they will never get that low….EVER. If the rough 2021 Topps Chrome product still sells for $125 hobby/$300 jumbo, I don’t see 2022 getting to $75/$150ish.

Totally understand if that’s the price you would be comfortable opening though.

These days? That's never how they have worked. There's a reason they are called hobby boxes, not profit boxes.

This product to me is in the same category as 2021 topps chrome anniversary platinum.

They were $150 the day of release and I was not tempted.

I actually bought in when they dropped to $110 and then later at $90.

If I saw hobby boxes of 2022 topps chrome at $150 at the shop, I would not be tempted to buy.

That's why I chose $100 - I would consider that fair.

Just as I chose to buy an NT basketball box for $3800 - I thought it was fair IMO. No way I would pay $6000 for a box.

I'd be in for the same price as 2021 topps chrome, BUT if the big three auto's are redemptions and there is no color---forget it.

I'd rather spend more money on chrome update.

Do not like the options.

Solid buy at $2.99/pack or $10/pack jumbos

NOT A PENNY MOAR

$1 per card was a rip-off in 2008.

$1 per card is an even bigger rip-off in 2022

I'm surprised anyone buys any of today's junk wax at any price.

Here's your average box break, which you will see 90% of the time:

autos : Rodolfo Castro base, Francisco Perez purple/250

color refractors : Jonathan India/250, Justin Turner/399

insert parallel : Heart of the city Freddie Freeman green/99

Base rookies of note : Wander Franco (Sick!!!! or could be O'neal Cruz).

refractors of note : Vladimir Guerrero Jr base refractor, Albert Pujols prism refractor

the usual inserts and base.

Would you feel like you got punched in the gut at $400 per hobby box of this? $300? $200? or all of the above?

You'd be luck too get 3 # cards and a color auto in a hobby box.

It's more like 2 junk base autos and 1 or 2 # cards.

There are plenty of current and former poasters that made plenty of money ripping unopened product. I don't know how they did on Topps Chrome specifically, but overall rip and flip was a profitable game through about 2018 or 2019.

I’ve heard people say otherwise over the last year or two as they pine for the “good ol’ days” on here. I don’t buy was though, so I wouldn’t know.
