Default 80's GiJoe vs Transformers?

Which of the two was more popular in the 80's? I think GiJoe came out first, but then people thought transformers was cooler because they transformed?

Kind of close domestically, as IIRC cartoons were pretty much on during the same period and were both on Saturday Mornings (same with TMNT!)

I think Transformers have more of a Global Appeal though, as GI Joe was/is kind of "US" Soldiers

They've taken off already. AFA versions of key figures go for thousands. No different than Star Wars. But as someone already mentioned, the worldwide appeal is somewhat limited with the exception of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The different movies was probably where they peaked. There is still a lot of demand and there is a G.I. Joe themed toy show in Southern California that goes once a year.

Transformers is an entirely different beast. Huge worldwide appeal. With the new movies coming out soon, there will probably be a revitalization of the figures. I know the super large boxed figures go for big money.

I've noticed sealed g1 optimus primes graded going for around 10k, and the sealed graded snake eyes in the 2-3k range. Was wondering where it stood investment wise. Not that i'm curious for investment only, but was thinking of grabbing one for the pc and later selling down the road.
