Default Any chance for Hedbert Perez to be anything?

I pulled a Hedbert Perez Gold Bowman Chrome Auto /50 a couple years ago, and sold it for around $1200..i was pretty hyped about him, but i basically timed the sale perfect

He started great but when he moved up a level in the minors his stats came crashing down...

The guy is 20 years old has power, but his chrome autos are almost worthless now..

I just picked up a Mojo RC Orange Chrome Auto /25 for the measly price of $40 recently, and buying his stuff would be like buying penny stocks...

At these prices you really can't get killed, but it's fun..who knows, maybe he pulls a Moniak lol

in june he hit 4 home runs with a .268 batting average, and in july .286, but is injured right now...

That's a big improvement over the start of the year, when he batted .120ish for two months....

But why is his stuff so decimated? he's 20 years old!

He's been a little unlucky given his batted ball profile coupled with a low BABIP (& not being a plodder), but there's quite a bit of poor contact/inconsitency mixed in there as well. His contact rate & approach needed improvement even when he was doing well - and for 1.5 years now they just haven't. He's more likely to fall off than develop further, but like you said, he's only 20 & does have significnat raw power - it just doesn't seem like it's at much as we thought back in 2021. A cautionary tale of trusting Complex League stats.

Wow, I didn’t realize his prices had come down so much. I pulled his orange auto and sold it right away. It was years ago, but I believe it sold around the $3k mark.

As long as they don't beat their significant others, they will get on the field until they dont

He has great defensive tools, is pretty fast and could be an offensive threat.

That's 2021 Hedbert. He's quite a bit slower now which has affected his defense a lot. He's down to average foot speed/average defense, and he'll have to work hard to keep it there.

He's also never had a good arm.

If you're buying, you're buying for the power. And like OP said results have been better of late but his profile hasn't. Still has approach issues.

If you’re 20 you can’t lose speed unless he gained muscle and has become stronger. What is a good thing that the Brewers will give their youngsters a chance in the majors but he will have to perform better, kid is talented so if it clicks he could be a good player.

Hopefully he doesn’t slump like Jackson Holliday.

I just rabbit-holed a little.

I'm easily taking his similarly-aged Carolina teammate Jace Avina over him for the hobby - but like Hedbert he has extreme risk.

But price-wise? Avina is roughly double, so as I see it the value is with Hedbert's 1-tool (power) profile over Avina's 3-tool (arm, field, power) profile.

Yes there's a chance. Disclosure, I have nothing invested into the guy.

He's WAY WAY WAY to young to write-off yet.

Insofar as he's repeating Low A, playing worse, body lacks projection, and no one in the major leagues has a swing that resembles his in the slightest, I'm going with no.

Wasn’t there a thread about him being the next Juan Soto? Or am I imagining that.

Wasn't he hyped to the moon upon his 1st release? One of the can't miss so must sell for stupid money? Like Austin Martin, Luis Rodriguez and the list goes on? Who hypes these guys like this upon release? Who is driving their prices, which WILL ALWAYS FALL...ALWAYS even for the good to great guys months after releases yet product goes up?
