Default What is the Mount Rushmore of pack-pulled autographed cards?

So what do you feel are the quintessential quad of major card company issued, pack-pulled autographed baseball cards?

You can combine both individual player signed and multi-player signed cards, or separate them into two different lists if you want. Please don’t include cut autographs for discussion sake, that can be done separately.

And of course, scans are always welcome.

Haha… you created a Mt Rushmore that Trout’s 1st Bowman auto couldn’t possibly be left off! I admire your gumption.

I would put the pujols chrome auto before the trout chrome auto - so what are your choices?

Given the extensive history of major card company issued pack pulled autos, think long and hard before you list yours!

To spur some conversation, I’ll list the first four autos that came to my mind in five seconds:

1994 upper deck mantle/Griffey
2001 bowman chrome pujols
2001 ultimate collection ichiro
2003 stadium club mays/Aaron

Im sure there are some nice passing the torches that deserve mentioning as well.

I’ll let you hobby veterans sort it out. My personal list would be ultra-modern stuff. I’ll say this, while the photo on Acuña’s 1st isn’t great, that auto he used for it is a thing of beauty.

Pujols BC
UD Mantle/Griff

I agree with the Reggie Jackson, Trout and Pujols. For the 4th, how about the Ted Williams UD Century Legends auto?

The unseen Evan Longoria superfractor 1st bowman chrome needs to be there just so we can see what it looks like.

Are we counting Allen & Ginter non-baseball because the Axl Rose auto might be on my list...

Yes, it came from a baseball product.

Allen ginter has provided a ton of on-card legendary autographs of many historical figures.

Not sure it reaches Mt. Rushmore for the majority, but personally, the 1992 Donruss Elite Signature Series Cal Ripken Jr. Auto /5000.

Aside from being a beautifully designed card with an always great sig from #8 (whose signature consistency matches his consistency on the field), I think it straddles the line of "impossible pull" and "still somewhat reasonably obtained" really nicely. It stands out as one of the earliest heavily marketed inserts in the junk wax era (the series started in 1991 so Donruss capitalized on its popularity for the 1992 release), and no doubt paved the way for numbered autos/inserts down the line. And if you're going with just one of Ryno, Cal, or Will the Thrill (the autos from 1991-1993), imo Cal Stands Alone.

Great article about the Signature Series line here:

I'll add a couple of Heritage autos for consideration:

- the 2015 Heritage Koufax/Kershaw dual auto
- the 2017 Heritage Ryan/Bench dual auto
- the 2018 Heritage Koufax/Kershaw dual auto

Gotta also mention the 2018 Bowman's Best Trout/Ohtani dual auto and the 2018 Topps Dynasty Ichiro/Ohtani dual auto.

A great reminder that there’s a lot more excellent autographed cards out there than at first glance. I can’t believe I forgot the heritage line!

Mantle/Griffey
Pujols Bowman Chrome
2012 Heritage Bryce Harper
Allen & Ginter Axl Rose

The last two are admittedly highly subjective, but I like Heritage autos, and was pretty dismissive of A&G celebrity autos until they got Axl Rose.

I probably should have put the 2018 Bowman Ohtani blue Kanji in there somewhere.

Heritage has had some great autos throughout the years....

the 2003 (i.e. 1954) Hank Aaron RC auto is a classic, as are some of the "pre-RC" autos 1966 & 1967 Nolan Ryan and 1967 Reggie Jackson & Johnny Bench, which represent years prior to their original RC's.

If the Ted Williams Upper Deck heroes auto is pack pulled, that should be in the convo.

The 1990 Reggie and the Griffey/Mantle dual should be on the list. If they were signed on the front of the cards instead of the backs, I would have included the Score Joe DiMaggio cards to the list.
