Default Thick card storage advice

Over the years, I've acquired a bunch of thicker cards (59/79 pt mostly) that I would normally just put into a binder with the standard 9-pocket pages, but they're too thick to fit or if they fit, I'm concerned that it will damage the card or they'll slowly push their way out because they don't really fit. I've looked at BCW storage, and it seems like I would have to put them into the pages that have 4 pockets to make sure they fit, which is a bit looser than I'd like (even with a sleeve as well).

Does anyone have any recommendations, or should I just stop whining and put them in thick card sleeves and toploaders? Thanks!

I have had the same problem and agree those size cards don’t really fit in 9 pocket pages. I have a few, that I didn’t really care about condition, that I wanted to display in a binder. I put those in 9 pocket pages probably about 10 years ago. I would say they don’t really fit and have been damaged by storing them this way, so I would not recommend 9 pocket pages for anything 75pt or higher.

What I did for the other cards I liked and was concerned about condition, is I put them in top loaders and stored them in the two row shoe boxes they make for top loaded cards. That way you can still enjoy them and they seem to be well protected. I honestly enjoy looking at the cards in top loaders more than the ones in pages. The two row shoe box holds about 200 cards and really helps keep them organized yet still leaves them easy to view.

What I do is cut a small part of the corners off the penny sleeve to relieve pressure on the corners. A perfect example is what Beckett does for their thick cards in the graded slabs. Notice the corners are slightly open.

Now don’t cut off too much of the corners. If you do, the actual corners of the card will be exposed.. just small enough to have a slight opening when the card is in the penny sleeve.

Then after cutting a small piece of the corners off, put the card in the sleeve and then put it in the top loader.

I hope that helps!

You can get pages for thicker cards. These are for graded cards but you could put thicker cards in a top loader or one touch into these.
