"> Why is the NBA adding the In-Season Tournament? The In-Season Tournament will provide players and teams with another competition to win, engage fans in a new way and drive additional interest in the early portion of the regular-season schedule." how is it supposed to do that? |

Forget Dwight 'Kitty' Howard. Commish Gollum's the real one poisoning our youth with Gen Y cuck enablement syndrome (CES).

The idea of any tournament in any sport is just as artificial. Anyway, this one is for ultimate bragging rights.

Doesn’t it seem too soon with so many teams still integrating pieces?
But this seems more like an attempt to grab eyes from college and pro football. And to sell the jersey variations. I’m not sure the product will match the hype |

I’m interested to see how it goes. I’m not a huge NFL guy so I’m happy for some early season attention to the NBA.

Just wait until a top star gets a season ending injury in this stupid thing that will then end the future of this real soon.

I wish they would've added some sort of playoff implication for the winner of the tournament. Like a first round bye. That would've made it way better.

In that case, the real load management would commence.

If you like basketball there’s really no need for an early season tournament to keep attention, I highly doubt this draws many in who otherwise wouldn’t be watching.
It’s not like this is done week or 2 long tourney… games are spread out over the next month. Just seems kinda pointless. But you can bet whoever’s team wins is gonna act like it’s a huge accomplishment. Especially the teams with no nba titles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm for this!
Fact is early season basketball is a mess to watch right now. Teams seem to treat November games like it's still preseason, so if this gets a handful of them to take things more seriously, sure, why not entertain me? And I don't even mind if the Lakers, Nuggets, Warriors, etc of the league don't take this seriously. I'll probably be more excited if teams like the Cavs, Thunder, Mavericks, Kings, and Pacers play like they have something to prove.

Believe this whole thing came about when a supplier forced the NBA's hand to install a brand new court for each team...NBA then thought they could make lemonade out of lemons and created the tournament.

The 2 teams in the finals will play 83 games, but it is not game 83. There is a big difference IMO. The games are part of the regular season. I actually think this could make the regular season a bit more interesting once it gets down to the quarters, semis, and finals. The main issue I see is the set-up and how spread out it is.

I think basketball & baseball should each have 2 seasons q year. Each with half the games & shorter playoff series. It would make the regular season mean so much more, have 2 champions a year, yet still keep the same total number of games per year.

I mean a secondary tournament/championship works for European football leagues, why can’t it work for the nba? It’s not like EPL fans ignore the FA cup (though the FA cup isn’t a perfect apples to apples comparison). How many people still watch meaningless bowl games in college football? It’s not like college basketball conference tournaments are played in front of empty arenas (again not a perfect apples to apples comparison). This thing will evolve over time and will probably be more important and valuable over time. I’m sure this is something that will look quite different in ten years time as the league makes adjustments. I know it might seem stupid and pointless now but could evolve into something more important over time (maybe inviting teams from Europe over for the mid season tournament?).
I will agree with some people though, that the special courts and uniforms seem a little hokey and scream cash grab |

This is beyond stupid. Do the W’s and L’s count in the regular season standings?

Yes. They are regular season games, until the Finals. So only 2 teams will play an extra game.
