Default 2023 Prizm UFC

Don’t see a thread yet and this product is scheduled to release in late April. Looks like debut of signed cards from hasbulla so could be a fun product.

Guarantee it'll be at least 50% more than what it should be at release.

Even before it came out he likes to get his rocks off abusing cats I never got the appeal of this little fella.

Bad timing for Panini lol

Luckily for them to much less fanfare they did announce Alex Pereira rookies/autos will also be in the product the next day

Watch him lose on Saturday and his cards drop 50% in value before they’re even released lol.

He would be my pick but great point lol could be another case of bad timing

Especially since rookies do seem to be a big focus of the Panini era, compared to other sports or even WWE it seems everyone wants the Paddy's or Khamzat's but guys like GSP, Tito Ortiz, aren't insanely valuable and even guys like Connor aren't completely unaffordable.

Being third year Prizm if he does lose and there isn't another rookie chase to fill the void, could be a rough rip

It’s truly bizarre. I didn’t start collecting MMA cards until roughly 2020 probably even though I was an MMA fan and a card collector for many years prior. The first card I bought I believe was an on card auto of Forrest Griffin. Not only was he a former champion but a popular fan favorite so needless to say I was astounded when I won it at auction for like $10.

I was collecting at series 1 too. For that community, it was actually a bit embarrassing. Card collecting just recently became an acceptable hobby. I actually mailed a Forrest series 1 card to his gym which he promptly signed and sent back. Also received Amir Sadollah, Jim and Dan Miller, and Dan Henderson. Liddell is the only one that didn't return one.

Those cards were far superior to this junk.

Panini is trying to cash in

The amount of cards printed in 2 years is insane... easily as much and likely more than Topps printed the whole 11 years with the Lic.

The popularity of the hobby and of UFC are much different now then back then. If Topps had the license they'd probably be printing a lot more now too.

This actually makes sense, in the days it went mainstream but before it is now the type of guys you'd see at bars watching UFC definitely didn't seem like the card collecting type lol I even remember UFC fighter signings and no one even brought cards to get signed it was always gloves, shirts, posters, etc. I'm sure that's similar in other sports but I bet there was kids getting hockey cards signed long before the boom lol

Whataboutism... and still doesn't make it right. If Topps was handling the UFC Lic this poorly, would bitch about them too and we did until Panini said hold my beer.

Do you collect baseball? Because everyone has been ripping Topps for the past couple of years especially since Fanatics took over. Fanatics is going to squeeze every cent out of the hobby to make up for how much they spent on Topps and NFL and NBA licenses. They are printing everything to the moon, forgetting to put silver packs in Chrome boxes, possibly leaving thousands of autos out of products that were on checklists and having horrible quality control on some big products where most cards fresh from packs would grade PSA 6 at best. So I doubt it would be better today if Topps still had UFC

It's also not like Topps was producing one UFC set a year lol, 2020 had three, 2019 had three and 2021 Panini had four, and supply still outdid demand as Striking Signatures the last set I remember being discounted almost everywhere.

Topps just got stuck having the License right before the boom lol and you could tell they were just kind of calling it in the last year knowing it was gone similar to Panini now with redemptions etc with them losing their licenses in other sports.

But but but.... more whataboutism

I don't excuse either company... both suck now but only one currently has the License... so if we stick to the topic, which is UFC cards... my comments are valid regarding Panini.

Topps was far from perfect... but aside from print runs... if you compare the cards released in the first 3 years they had the Lic vs. Panini... the type, quality and variation of the UFC cards released by Topps was much better than anything Panini has produced. And with a considerably smaller fan base and collecting group.

Quite true... Topps was definitely phoning it in at the end but those releases were considerably smaller at least

This is why I expected more from Panini... especially with the lucky timing coming in at the boom. But the result has been more hype than sizzle.

At least the first 5-7 years of releases from Topps were reasonably good... and they didn't totally use release/set names & themes already used with other sport releases. They tried to make the UFC cards distinct.

Regardless... past is the past... and the future is Fanatics (uugghh). Hence why I focus on the early Topps UFC cards. 1st lic cards, more distinct, broader types of sets/cards and lower production runs.

FOTL tomorrow and no one cares. This probably has less anticipation than WWE Prizm, I may actually believe "the fix is in" if this doesn't get to/near floor. Between the Hesbulla thing, Pereira losing when he would probably be the next "chase" rookie behind Paddy last year and Khamzat before that, and some of the fighters with recent big wins having zero hobby love (Gilber Burns, Alexa Grasso) set already seems dead in the water. I mean it didn't even get a Blowout First Buzz lol

Interesting they are following the WWE blueprint with a H2/Undercard box though with undercard base variations. The WWE ones are of different characters the wrestler portrayed than their base card so it'll be interesting what they do for UFC, maybe younger/rookie era photos? Which would be cool imo

What’s the floor? I can’t see it on the app. $250 for hobby is crazy high but I’m willing to bet that FOTL sells out right around there.

Floor is $250 on FOTL.

Just took a quick look at the checklist. I'm probably missing a few but the names that stood out as far as rookies go seem to be Rosas, Blanchfield, Nickal, Pereira and Maddalena. Anybody else?
