Default What are your thoughts on Kyle Tucker

I really think he’s going to break out this year, I had he same feeling last year with gleyber Torres and bought a ton of his best cards for cheap and made a good profit on them although I will admit I flipped them to early could of made more if I just have waited a little longer but I still came out way ahead

Good power/speed combo (for now). Hope he gets a full-time role this season. That swing is a little weird, kind of a throwback. I like his game. He looks like he is 12, kind of odd.

I think I sold his stuff way too early. Looking for some things before ST.

I’ve been slowly building up interest in Tucker, but I’m probably not going to go deep into his cards. I think he’ll be good, but there’s just too much uncertainty.

First, playing time could be tough to come by—though that can change with one move, such as trading or benching Josh Reddick.

Then there’s the number of stars already on Houston (Altuve, Bregman, Correa, Yordan, Springer, Verlander and Greinke) who could easily overshadow him. Even Brantley and Gurriel are likely to put up better numbers, so he could end up being the eighth-best hitter on the team.

And then I look at that .260 average in Triple-A this past season. I know he hit a lot better the previous year, but I‘m still concerned that he won’t prove to be a great all-around hitter.

(I, too, did quite well on Gleyber by scooping a bunch of his stuff last offseason.)

Only three? Must not have much of a future with that few BO threads.

I don't see what the hype is about. Mind you I have a small sample size to go off of.

Extremely difficult to justify current prices even though they aren’t ridiculous:

- probably hitting 7th or 8th
- probably sitting versus lefties
- batting average in AAA LY raises questions
- unknown effects once cheating penalties are handed out

Pass

When I heard about Kyle Tucker's near-ycle I started wondering how many games there have been with that combination of hits. Someone already worked it out and it turns out this was just the 21st time it's happened compared to 286 cycles. Three times since 2003, but the last one before that was 1962.

had Houston let him play everyday in the second half of 2018 he’d already be a known commodity, and yet here we are in crazy 2020 wondering if he’ll be good... I’ve got a ton of his stuff but I’m starting to think unless he goes wild... .300/.400/.500 with 10HR/10SB, he’ll be regulated to the bargain bin of what could of been prospects. As someone posted, he’s probably only the 7th-8th best hitter on the team, add in Houston seems intent on destroying his career by not letting him play everyday, it’ll be an uphill battle for him.

Amazingly enough Dusty Baker seems to be the one to free Tucker. He's played every day even though he's been pretty bad this season (save for yesterday and his walk off homer a few games ago). With Yordan out for the year, I think he's going to play every day (also if Bregman is out for extended period it may move Gurriel to 3b and open up 1b) unless he just completely goes into the tank. This is the year and hopefully he can build on yesterday. Still only 23 and a break out is absolutely possible.

His swing reminds me of a ferris wheel at the local fair. Super long. 2 years ago, I thought this kid was going to be a stud. Still could be a really good player, but it's hard to be a hobby darling when you cant crack the Top 5 players on your own team. Unfortunately for him, he's stuck on a great team that had too much depth. Just hasn't had a real shot.

I do wonder if the GIANT prospect of Alvarez always looming had gotten into his head, and now that he is out (for now), maybe he has a little bit of confidence that he's not getting benched or sent down in the foreseeable future. Kid has all the tools...maybe he can build on his finish last year.

It would mess with my head a little.....

Worked for KGJ

His bat spends a lot of time in the zone which actually usually correlates to better outcomes

Should have been up in '18. 20/20, .332 in 100 games at AAA. Nope. Repeats AAA, goes 30/30, still not up. Should have traded him by now if they weren't going to play him.

How they went with Jake Marisnick and Josh Reddick for so long these past 2 years...

Have a small position in him. Needs to stop chasing the high fastball first and foremost.

Problem is, we don't have anyone Houston would want.

He's short to and long through. Pitching's too good now to be anything other than short to the ball. He just hits the brakes hard at contact with lower body and the upper half just keeps turning and turning.

He destroys inside pitching. If he can learn to hit a few to left field then team will not be able to shift on him so much. But he is pulling 80% of his hits between first and SS. His spray chart literally said nil. for the left side when they showed the other night during game. I hope he doesn't turn into another AAAA player. Astros have had so many over the years (Singleton, Reed, Kyle's own brother).
