Default One touch with or without penny sleeves?

Do people use one touch holders meant for unsleeved cards or the one touches like PRO mold that are meant to hold a card with a penny sleeve on it. I see pros and cons of each, but kind of like the extra protection of the sleeve. Not sure though.

Personally, I wouldn’t use a one touch without a penny sleeve. I’ve had a few incidents in the past where surfaces have been scratched or corners damaged. I’m not a fan of any kind of one touch personally, but I know a lot of people here like them.

without for me. adding the sleeve only adds another layer of not seeing the card, which is what sucks about BGS.

we are talking about raw cards here, so no need to "worry" about "damaging" cards that are in the one touch.

I only use the pro molds with penny sleeves. I see no downside.

There's something wrong with your penny sleeves if they interfere with your ability to see the card.

I have a hard time believing the sleeve gets in the way here:

Condition matters for raw cards, too. We just choose not to have a high school drop out tell us what that condition is. And hard plastic edges like one touches and PSA slabs is known to damage card edges when they bounce around in there. Penny sleeves to protect my cards for me.

What penny sleeves do you use? Mine tend to be a little short. I've tried a few different types and they just barely cover the top of the card.

Just the basic BCW. Although, I know what you're talking about. When I get a card in one of those short ones it goes in the trash.

it's a sick card...I've been looking for one of the gold variations /50.

I'll try my BCW sleeves. I have a card in the Ultra Pro and they are just a shade short. Thanks!

That’s really weird.

I’ve used ultra pro magnets for 20+ years and have never had a problem.

Placing the card in the sleeve adds one more risky step to damaging the card, imo, even with cutting a corner off.

Plus it really annoys me if the penny sleeve is not centered in the holder.

I carry Pro Mold w/ sleeves and cheap fanatic ones without in my store. I've personally never used the ones without a sleeve. If I use a sleeve in a top loader why wouldn't I in a one touch? Theres a place for the cheap ones with no sleeves though. If you want to display a LOT of cards on a shelf or in a case buying all Pro Molds can get expensive vs. the cost of the cheap no sleeve ones.

Yeah, I get the sense that my views are in the minority here. That’s fine. It’s just more one touches for everyone else.

It seems like more prefer the promold with sleeve.

The biggest factor I think is making sure your card is in an appropriately sized holder.

Oh, and plus make sure you don’t flip those things across the hall like a frisbee or keep them in your pockets in a jumpy house.

Yes. The card can shift upwards if it's thinner cardstock (flagship).
For slightly thicker chrome cards 35pt they can move up if you intentionally try to shuffle it or if the mag like falls of a stand.

Pro Mold did try to correct this potential issue with their 2nd & 3rd generation mag with sleeve.
I have not used those so I can't comment on how effective they are.

This is why I keep all boxes sealed. Can’t trust opening the pack. That’s crazy

In the end it's personal preference since it isn't likely to have enough data to warrant a solid conclusion.

I've always liked the idea and look of mags but never bought them for myself, except for super thick cards, because I never liked how cards move around in them, even with the proper thickness.

When I discovered the Pro-mold sleeved mags, that changed the game for my PC stuff. Most of my PC, standard to thick cards, is now in one of these. I like the look and feel secure about Pro-mold's strong magnets unlike Ultra-pro.

The only complaint I have is the little nubs at the top to pry the pieces apart making it harder to enclose a mag sleeve cleanly over it. Let the overprotection jokes roll in.

As an FYI, Ultra Pro is getting ready to release their One Touch X, they will hold a penny sleeve.

Vintage-size One-Touches will fit a chrome card in a sleeve with no pinching.

I wish they’d focus more on making a holder that doesn’t get scratched up when you breathe on it than releasing more low quality crap. Ultra Pro quality has careened off a cliff in the last several years

For me, cards look best when they're butt-ass naked, raw. A one-touch without a sleeve brings me the closest to that nirvana while keeping the card protected.

I do not like how penny sleeves look on my cards. I don't like the extra layer of glare, and I don't like the visible plastic around the edges/corners.

This is also the main reason why I prefer PSA slabs over all other slabs with sleeves in them.

As mentioned above, you absolutely have to choose the correct sized one-touch and avoid any excessive jostling.

This video is not a real scientific study by any means, but I think it's an interesting look at what can happen to a Pokemon card in a PSA slab after an absurd amount of movement.
