Default Anyone else losing complete interest in cards like I am?

Just curious if it is me or other people. Used to break a ton. Now have no interest in sorting, listing, post office, etc. Even this board. I used to post alot on the old board. Just can't get into it here. Is something wrong with me?

I think most people come and go in this industry. i take a couple of years off then get back into it. The way topps and ud is doing things right now doesn't help either..

Default totally agree

can't stand all the piles, weeks of work, emails, returns, lost items, endless emails

i like the products i can bust 8-10 cases and profit $4-$5k, but not stuff like topps jumbos to break even or make $200

so i havent busted since a&g, and won't until turkey red then bowman heritage
that's it, maybe topps 3

very tired of it, plus postage increases, ebay fees, paypal fees, etc...
CHARGEBACKS

i have not even posted here in a month! wow

i liked the old site much better, much simplier

I'm there too. Hockey season is coming and I can't even get myself to commit to a case of Ultra. I have two cases of Bowman football coming and that will probably be it for a while.

Half the problem is I seriously have 10000-15000 saleable singles here ($1-3, some $10+ on eBay) that I can move without ripping wax which would basically be pure profit because the cases are paid for.

Maybe after all that crap is cleared out I'll be into it again, but I think I'm just going to pick up my 07-08 Upper Deck Master set from a dealer and wait for O-Pee-Chee, and it looks like they may have even screwed that up.

I don't think there is anything wrong with you. Maybe you're just burnt out. I know I am.

The fun has gone out of it and I too have cut way back. There are so many more hassles and issues that you have to deal with anymore and most of the time the profit is so small it has become not worth it. I dont think there is a thing wrong with you.

Take a break for a while..
hire some one to rip, sort, scan and even list if need be.

But don't leave.. I need more Rippers as it is, not less.. I can never get enough Cowboys, NEVER! I always run out of cards before I run out of buyers..

I am right there with you. Not many of the new products excite me, not even hockey. Ebay is a big hassle for not much in return. Even, the mood on this message board has become testy, at times.

I am right there with you as well. Sick of losing money EVERY time, sick of the low-baller ebayers who think they are doing you a favor offering less than half of what you have in something, sick of the chargeback threats and the surly attitudes of about 10% of the people I encounter, sick of all the time I am spending without anything to show for it, etc. Need a long break and am about to take one.

im with everyone else... hence the reason for diving more into memorabilia... better to COLLECT than cards... although it can be a lot more expensive, they look better when you show them off.

plus it gets tiring sorting, and shipping and all that when you come home from your real job.

i think i am with brent. maybe just specializing in topps heritage baseball and maybe bowman chrome baseball. they seem to be two of the better products and are far enough apart that i can rest and prepare for each.

i've been doing this at shows (35+/year in the 90's) and then on ebay for 17 years now, and i've never really liked cards. i've persisted because it's the only way i know to stay self-employed

I think what a lot of us are dealing with is that this is extra work on top of a job, so when you do extra work after a job, you want it to pay off. After this summer, its hard to see that happening.

I think I'm just exhausted myself, but I have two cases of Bowman football coming, and if I don't want to take a bath in it I'd better list some of it.

KMD - part of what you said is certainly the reason I have lost some momentum. I have a full-time job that has just zapped the energy out of me for the past 3 months. I think so much at work that I hate thinking so much at night. Instead I watch mindless television.

The other part of it for me is that there is really nothing out there that tickles me. I just have become so bored with all of the releases. The products get built up and fall flat on their face. Great example is Topps TX. Topps had a chance to blow people away with this release and they failed miserably.

I am going to turn to selling off what is sitting in my basement and play it by ear from there. Maybe the switch will turn back on.

Well, somebody out there must still be breaking if the prices on stuff remain so low.

The UD policy change really hurt me. I don't like being "forced" to do Topps baseball products. I also cut back because I don't have time anymore because of my new job. I think I am going to only break hockey, because there are only so many sets (even if they are all UD and I can't get them till two weeks after release), and my girlfriend loves it. She doesn't mind the other sports too, but hockey is definitely her favorite. In fact, if it weren't for her, I might not even do hockey.

I'm throwing the towel in, at least for a while. After Bowman Football I'm out. I have 10-15K in saleable cards here (and that is 10-15K of cards that should sell for $1+ individually), I don't need to rip until I turn that into cash. If I can't get excited for Fleer Ultra, even though it looks to be an awesome product, I don't need to be doing this right now.

Yeah, I used to always buy my Yankees team sets from them, but you don't see them breaking and posting much on E-bay anymore.
