2009 Topps WWE Sketch Cards — the rarest sketches ever?
Collectors looking to land one of the first Sketch Cards hand drawn by World Wrestling Entertainment superstars from the newly released 2009 Topps WWE set haven’t seen a single one pop up on the auction block. Why? Because there are only 31 Sketch Cards to be found in the entire product. Again, just 31. Period. Let that sink in … Four WWE stars opted to put pen to paper — err, cardboard — for the project. The most accomplished in-ring performer, Jerry “The King” Lawler, also is the most accomplished artist of the bunch. He drew just seven cards for inclusion in hobby packs, including the portrait of Undertaker above. Santino Marella – WWE’s world champion of comedy relief — helps lead the way with 10 cards drawn for the set, while a pair of WWE Divas round out the offerings with Eve drawing four cards and Natalya adding 10. Lawler drew other WWE stars, while Marella drew himself, his “sister” Santina and some other items firmly part of his “heritage.” The Divas opted for more abstract drawings. Here’s a rundown of the sketches Jerry Lawler Cards Big Show Batista Rey Mysterio Triple H Edge Undertaker Jack Swagger Eve Cards “Speak what you feel, and act what you speak” Musical Notes “Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Owner” “Passion” Natalya Cards Glory Balance Spirit Honour Energy Calm Peace Sparkle Happy Pride Santino Cards Self portrait Map of Italy Landscape Self portrait Self portrait (with belt) Santina Island Muscle Self portrait Santino in ring Chris Olds is the editor of Beckett Baseball and Beckett Graded Card Investor.
