Default 2 weeks left, who's the AL MVP?

Simple question, hopefully this doesn't end up being a pissing match.

Who's the AL MVP in your opinion?

I think it should be Trout, but will be Miggy.

Waiting on the Oakland fans who will be the first to complain about Josh Donaldson being left off the list.

If Trout were on a playoff team, I think he would have won.

But alas, Miggy will when again.

I agree with you. The Angels are irrelevant, so Trout is out. A good case can be made for Chris Davis, too, but Miggy's avg and OBP make him the winner. Detroit is taking the division. The O's may grab a wild card spot.

Trout won't get it because of the team he is on.

If scherzer has a good next couple starts, I'd go with him.

Miggy is putting up MVP numbers even with the abdomen issues he's been dealing with since the All-Star break. Imagine if he wasn't dealing with that nagging issue and hadn't had to miss time this year.

I'm sorry I get everyone has a hard on for Trout, but Miggy is MVP even with the season Crush is having.

Trout. Miggy is closer than last year but Trout is still the best player in the AL.

How is Miggy closer than last year when Miggy won the MVP last year?

Miggy won the MVP. Trout had by far the better overall 2011 season, when considring defense, baserunning, position, and offense.

Offensively, sure. Need to account for defense, baserunning, position too.

Miguel Cabrera comparison

2012: .330/44/139

2013 (so far): .347/44/134

He's had a better season than his triple crown season last year. He leads the league in Avg/OBP/SLG/OPS/OPS+. His OBP is 50 points higher than it was during his 2012 MVP season.

Yes there are some other worthy competitors out there, but Cabrera has solidified himself as the best hitter in the game and put up even bigger numbers than he did last season. I don't see anyone but Cabrera winning this award.

MVP - who is the most important player....Trout, he should be out b/c the Angels still stink. Miggy, surrounded my other great hitting and pitching, they'd be playoff bound w/o him. Chris Davis - WINNER.. Where would they be w/o him?????????

Or was that Ozzie Smith? No, maybe Rey Sanchez? Andruw Jones?

Sorry, i forgot that, must've slipped my mind...

There are two wallets. The first has a $50 bill and five $1 bills. The second has a $20 bill and five $10 bills.

Which is the most valuable bill?

This thread asked who should be MVP, not who you think will win.

And have you actually checked Trout's offensive numbers? He's nearly on par with Miggy as is, before even looking at anything else!

No way Trout doesn't win MVP. He is having one of the overall best statistical seasons we've seen in quite some time.

Past winners like Howard, Pujols, ARod etc...have proven that being on a playoff team has little to no bearing on the award. Plus it's not like Cabrera singlehandedly led his team to the playoffs if that's your argument for him.

Also how important is defense when measuring a players value? Trout is one of the best defensive outfielders in the game while Cabrera is known by many as the worst defensive 3B in MLB.

What about the intangibles like baserunning? Obviously Trout is a premier baserunner who frequently takes an extra base and rarely runs himself into outs. Cabrera is a liability on the basepaths.

You guys need to get off the power numbers for a minute and look at the overall value....

If we're getting into advanced metrics then yes Trout is your winner. If that's the case then there's really no need for a vote anymore, it should simply be whoever finishes with the highest WAR each season.

So here we are with Cabrera controlling most traditional stat categories and Trout atop the list for most of the advanced metric categories. It would be interesting to see how this vote would go, but we are not on a level playing field for one reason: Cabrera is headed to the playoffs while Trout will be watching from home.

I look forward to the day when both Trout and Cabrera are on playoff teams so we can finally see which type of statistics the voters believe carries more weight.

Which is funny, bc last year even though either was a good candidate, I thought Trout shoulda won MVP but Triple Crown winners are rare. However, the playoff Tigers last year had a worse record than the non playoff Angels.
