Default 2017 Topps Bunt "Gut Reaction" Review

I cracked a blaster and a hobby box of this year's physical installment of Topps Bunt. Here are my less-than-insightful thoughts on this surprisingly gorgeous set (uhh... spoiler alert, I guess?). Thanks and enjoy!

I agree, 'fun' is the key word. Also if buying hobby boxes it is a low risk/decent reward for there are 1/1 printing plates, 1/1 red parallels, and one auto per case. Not to mention the other /25 /50 parallels if you pull a hot player.

Im commenting on this thread as the video plays but yeah, Digital representations of the physical cards can be pulled by way of loot codes

I can finally understand why Topps wouldn't honor the whole $25 in code things. I did some math and at 12 codes a box, with $25 worth of Bunt coins (approx. 175K) youd end up with about 2 million coins a box.

Two million coins a box equals 40 MILLION coins per case. Thats well around $4000 worth of coins if you bought them from Topps I think. (1.125Mil for $100 I think?)

This would theoretically drive the Bunt economy down as non limited CCs would go up like crazy and people could hypothetically hoard some of the limited inserts.

Aside from that, just like last year I think that this is a fun set. Even better design this year. Not a big fan of the full color parallels but other than that it will be a fun thing to put together

Exactly. It's been nice to see Topps, and to some degree Panini, step up their low-end game. You don't always need a ton of sticker autographs and plain white square half-inch jerseys to get people to buy.

Thanks for clearing that up. The sell sheet confused me a bit, and I don't remember the cards themselves actually mentioning it at all.

Changing the $25 coins to packs makes sense, but it's too bad that they all still made it into packs and that Topps, as far as I'm aware, has yet to publicly address just what the heck is going on. Still haven't heard what the Splatter, Vapor, Galaxy, etc. codes are good for, either. I know the sell sheet says, but I'm not trusting that sell sheet right now. lol

I didn't care for any of the cards you showed images of. Thought your video was very well done though. You get a star, Topps bunt gets -

I was going to buy a box until I saw the checklist and realized that my favorite player (MadBum) doesn't even have a base card.

Anybody have a clue why MadBum isn't in the set? It's pretty unusual for a superstar not to have a base card in a set....

Splatter, Vapor, Galaxy, etc are inserts that will have a code on back that if you redeem will give you that same card in a digital form in the app. Since it is unlikely that all the codes will be reeemed by deadline this will create some potentially high value inserts depending on player within the app. I pulled a orange splatter insert of dee gordon and so far it is the only one that has been redeemed.

The Splatter, Galaxy and Vapor sets are nice, but I wish you could pull something in the loot packs at long odds like moonshots or stadiums last year. Sucks that everything I pull from loot packs will be high count by the end of the year, except for whatever they release near the end of the season like last year.

These are way better than last year's. I plan on grabbing a couple more blasters and at least one hobby box in the near future. I like low-end because I'm usually on that kind of budget. It's great to not have to settle for junk 100% of the time.
