Default Putting Cards in Mags

So, I've noticed sometimes cards do not fit exactly in a specific type of magnetic. For instance some cards that are just a bit larger than 130's but have a good amount of wiggle room in 180's. So I was wondering, how do you all deal with this if it comes to Magnetics? I've so far done this, but I was wondering if there are better ways to approach it.

Also, none of these cards are Chrome, so Surface scratches aren't such a huge deal to me as most these stock cards won't ever see the light of day in a slab being graded.

So what I do, is a place a folded penny sleeve then place the card over the penny sleeve. I snap the magnetic, team bag, and store.

I place my cards on the smallest size magnetic with wiggle room. In the case you described it would be the 180pt. I never want the card surface to be pinned to the case surface due to fear of the autograph ink sticking to the case.

Interesting, I've never had an issue of an Auto sticking on the case.

I don't like mags. I've had shipping issues. I've seen scratch surfaces - it's not just chrome that scratches, foil accents (like those on RPAs) are also particularly sensitive. They take up more room. They cost more. The protection they provide over a top loader is minimal at best.

The only positive i have is how they look if you were going to display them on a shelf or desk.

Rant over.

I'm with you here. I had all my cards in mags for a while and then one day I damaged a card opening the mag case. It was my own dumb fault but it never would have happened with top loaders. I switched everything to sleeves, top loaders and team bags and couldn't be happier.

I never ship cards in mags, as all cards in Mags are stored in a box and displayed in my collection.

Never had an issue with mags for any type of card.
I just make sure that there is some wiggle room.
Never damaged a card in a mag but have bent corners in a top loader.

Honest question. Not just being argumentative. Why? What does a mag provide you in this case?

It's all for displaying purposes, it doesn't have anything to do with protection as toploaders do the same. I just like the look of Mags for my PC cards. All other cards I own that are investments or tradebait are all stored in toploaders.

This thread brought to mind Card Savers. It seems so hard to get card sufficiently into these without force. Afraid of damaging a card I’m trying to submit for grading! Thoughts?

On topic, mags for display, top loaders for storage.

Fair enough then.

Slice one side of the card saver about half way down, it's then very easy to get the card placed inside and offers the same protection. Easier for the grader to remove it also.

I also have my cards in mags and they are mostly just stored in a box when I am not taking them out to look at them.

I prefer it to a toploader because I just really don't want the autograph surface pressed against the case surface. It is pressed to the sleeve when inside a top loader. I've had autos both on cards and photos, and glossy card surfaces stick to sleeves, binder pages, and toploaders before. It may not be a common issue for temeperate climates but it is here in a tropical climate; which is also why I have desiccants in my card storage.

Edit: I always ship cards in toploaders though, except if the recipient specifically requests for the card to be shipped in a mag.
