Default So what happens to the NBA PL (post-Lebron?)

1. Who becomes the new active player GOAT and hobby highest tier priced?

2. Who does the media start to follow with every move and word?

3. Who do the haters start to hate? (Or is there actually some semblance of peace on the BO message boards?)

1. Luka and giannis.

2. Luka and giannis.

3. Lebron is on the Mount Rushmore of greatness and will always be talked about, haters will continue with their narrative.

Zion is a highlight reel waiting to happen but I don’t see any post season successes coming his way for a while so I’m not high on him in this context.

These are good questions....

Things can change so fast in the NBA. If LeBron officially falls off....

-Giannis is crowned the best player on the planet with a championship
-A restructured Warriors roster could push Curry back into the top hobby spot
-Durant winning championships with that star studded roster would be weird, especially if he keeps dogging it in the regular season
-Luka has about 2-3 more years in which he has to start winning MVPs or playoff series' before the tide starts to turn a bit (my guess is he will). After that, people will expect a championship.
-People will always talk about LeBron

If I had to give you my list of most likely to be active GOAT after LeBron, in no order:
-Curry
-Giannis
-Luka

Luka/Zion seems right. One American, one international. I think it could be Luka/Giannis but I don't see it being 2 international players.

Maybe...

Curry/Luka into
Luka/Zion

Curry is the father of the modern game. He's coming off a great season at age 33. He'll get venerated as the elder statesman of the NBA.

Luka needs to compete for championships to be the new face of the NBA.

Giannis is an amazing athlete but limited by his sub par shooting. I think Zion falls into that same category.

Zion is the best in the league at shooting.. from 5 feet out.
He is the Meg White of shooters.

Jayson Tatum reminds me of Kobe. He works hard for his buckets.

He has remarkable touch around the basket -- his hands are like cat paws.

It's Luka all day. The media has been giving a lot of attention to Trae and Ja lately and I'd love to see them succeed as well.

Durant clear #1 because the Nets will be closer to titles [or already have one] than the GSW core [ages 33, 31, 31] who really missed on the #2 pick last year, and don't know if Klay will come back 100%. You'd have KD with 3 rings going for 4 with the same team to match LBJ.

Curry, then a drop to

Greek/Luka need multiple titles to become Goat unless they start putting up Wilt's stat lines daily.
Zion

Durant needs to play full seasons -- he missed way too many games this season.

Embiid misses too many games too. He's got maybe the most personality of any of the younger stars, but you've got to be on the floor every night to reach true stardom.

I think for at least the next 2-3 years the league will still be ruled by the aging all-time greats (Steph, KD, Kawhi, Harden etc.). Then after that, it will be a constant battle between prime giannis, jokic, luka, embiid, tatum etc. with the young guys like zion, lamelo, morant, and edwards in the mix as well. Plus on top of all that the next 2-3 draft classes are apparently going to be crazy stacked so I'm sure at least a couple of those guys will end up being stars also. Overall I think Luka will be the best player in the league going forward but there will surely be plenty of players not far behind.

Pretty good assessment. Although, the next 2-3 years, LeBron and the Lakers can be right back in it if he and AD can stay healthy.

But I learned in football that the ascension of a young star can come quick. Prior to the 2018 season I talked about how it would be very interesting to see the generation after Brady, Brees, Rodgers jockey for position as best of the new generation.

It took 2 years for Mahomes to run away with that title. A similar run by any of these younger guys (Luka, Giannis, Zion) would do the same.

I think Kahwi will remain the best all-around player for the next few years until Doncic is able to best him in a playoff series and compete for a championship. Kahwi has quietly been the best player for the last 3 seasons IMO but will never draw much attention given his demeanor. Luka's game and demeanor seem suitable to carry the league in the way other great players have done for their generation. I don't see the same combination of skill, size, and attitude in any other young players. MJ had it, LeBron had it, and I see it in Luka.
