Default Gold or Gold Vinyl?

Just curious what everyones opinion was in this. I know Gold Vinyl is /5 but I think I like the clean look of Gold Vinyl personally. Although I'd be happy with either. I'd guess I'm in the minority here but wondered if anyone else felt the same.

I prefer the gold vinyl look. The shade of gold just looks nicer to me. Sometimes the gold prizms /10 don't really look gold.

Gold vinyl just doesn't do it for me. A dull, almost matte-looking finish is meh, personally speaking. The Prizm base parallel gold /10 is the standard, everything else is just an imitation.

To add: I'm a huge fan of the OG Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome golds /50 as well, but 50 copies is too much to be considered rare and is why I prefer the Prizm gold parallel.

True Gold is the classic. Prices reflect that too.

I’be been picking up some of those bowman golds /50 for my sons Giants collection. I like em too.

I’m also a big fan of the early finest gold xfractors /10 but I haven’t begun to add any yet.

After 2012 prizm gold my second favorite gold is the 2003 chrome xfractors /101 Uncirculated. I’m two away from the whole Giants run (10 cards) but I’ve stalled looking for the final two

I hear you. The 2003 xfractors are nice, I just don't collect anyone from that era. Pound-for-pound, Select's 2013 gold prizm is the best "gold parallel" ever made, IMO.

Definitely up there. Carlson Cards on IG has really added alot to his ‘13 select gold set chase this year. Almost every time I look he has another one up

I like both but Gold Vinyls seems to often have some type of horizontal line defect affecting grading.

Not taking rarity into account, I prefer true gold prizms to vinyl prizms. Prizm Vinyls are bleh, and look dull to me, and don't have nearly the same eye appeal as golds.

Not to mention, it's not as difficult to find vinyl prizms these days scattered amongst various releases. Spectra, Select, Prizm, Mosaic, all seem to have vinyl golds in some form or fashion.

This question comes up once a quarter and I like it.

Prizm -- Gold

Optic / Topps / everything else -- Gold vinyl

Gold Vinyl is the original superfractor. Thank goodness Optic kept it mostly 1/1.

Sure about that? Preference is one thing, but sold price is actual data. Gold's aren't outselling 1/1 GVs and /5 GVs are very close.

Much prefer the Gold, just visually pops more than the Gold Vinyl which can come across as a bit dull.

The best thing Panini ever did was making Gold Prizms /10.

For the average card, it makes it a challenging chase that's still obtainable. For the most important cards ever made, it makes for absolute grails that most collectors have to be very fortunate to ever have a chance to own ('12 Brady, '17 Mahomes, etc).

I very stupidly sold a Mike Evans Gold Prizm rookie for $100 bucks sometime in 2016. Don't ask me why, I think it was because it was a BGS 9 and I hated the silver slip inside the slab. oopsie daisy

I would kill for that card now.

Well maybe not kill. But I wouldn't mind having it back.

I like them both. Wish they made them consistent between sets. Sometimes the Gold Vinyls are 1/1 (spectra/Optic) and sometimes the Golds are /25 + (Phoenix).

Sad that the OG golds /50 aren't considered rare anymore.

I think I only pulled one - Billy Hamilton BCA - but man was I pumped!

Sound quality is better on vinyl.

And if you play any Tom Brady Buccaneers ones backwards it says "Bill is dead".

They are still very rare. People just think /50 is common.

I love the gold prizms.... but the vinyls are just so much nicer. The gold highlight around the players image is stunning.
Definitely a more "antique" classic high end look that many call dull. Where as the shiny of the gold is what people love about those.

I think I have to go gold vinyl. I just wish they were 1/1s in Optic.

I will answer in picture form:

Although to be honest the 2017 gold shine isn't as bright as the other years.

Gold... 100%

For one simple fact...

Gold Vinyl in Prizm... /5... Gold Vinyl in nearly all(?) other Panini products that have them... 1/1
