I remember years ago when Broder's came out and they were "unauthorized" and price guides would not include them. I did not look at the rest as this just popped into my head. I was putting some Cubs Leaf cards away and noticed they did not have the Cubs emblem on jersey or hats. I looked and the back says "This card is solely by the licensed by the depicted player. This card has not been authorized, endorsed or approved by any college, university or licensing agency (2011 - Baez) and 2023 "This card is solely by the licensed by the depicted player. This card has not been authorized, endorsed or approved by any licensing agency." (2023-Sandberg). I don't do modern so don't have any guides. Does this mean that the current Guides will not include them since they are not "authorized" like the old Broder's? I would guess this is not the case since dealers have a BV on them on eBay. I guess MLB has loosened their restrictions?

Who cares?
Its 2024 and nobody uses price guides anymore, you can find unlimited sales data on the internet. Even that has to be sorted through and analyzed before it can be considered legit I wouldn't trust a 3rd party to tell me the value of anything in 2024.

I don't disagree with you. I don't buy modern anymore - quit in 2002 but - someone must care as most people trading list or ask for BV on modern cards.

Leaf issues appear in Beckett OPG. They have some licensing (player) whereas the broder issues way back were just printed off without any licensing whatsoever. The latter will not be found in Beckett OPG.
Actually, I've found that trading card database does a nice job of capturing a lot of broder issues and junk era misprints which is cool for fans of the obscure.

Rog that, thanks. I just posed the question because I thought MLB had to license an issue. So I guess if a player does it is o.k. At least the players are getting some of the money.

I sold a Harper bowman (paper) auto on release day in 2011. I can’t find actual proof on the internet. Can you? |

Broders are unauthorized, as no one but the printer/seller licensed the images/ logos.
Leaf is unlicensed, as they dont have a logo deal with the league. But the player has licensed his image and name to the company. Broders are also illegal. Plenty of show guys had a visit from the friendly feds and had their stock confiscated. |
