Good for him that he caught his illness early. Now onto a nice retirement and financially secure.

He was so good, I hate that we won't be able to see him play anymore.

Aldridge was a very good player for a fairly long time. One of the best shooting big men in NBA history.

He's dealt with this issue almost his entire NBA career, it's just not worth it at his age now. Good luck LaMarcus, thanks for being a Blazer and a Spur!

Health and family are the 2 most important things so thank you to him for an amazing career and best of luck with whatever he does from now on.

I will fondly remember him and Roy. Very nice career and an almost unstoppable mid-range game!

Wish the man all the best. Glad he detected and made the right decision

Great talent and teammate and seems to be a standup individual. Best wishes LA

Same heart condition I have, WPW. No doubt gets more troublesome as you get older!

Underrated player in his prime. As a Mavs fan during the 2010-11 run - Portland was such a tough opponent. If they were able to upset Dallas I wouldn't be surprised if they made it all the way to the Finals that year & Aldridge would be looked at differently if that happened.

I hate to see a players career end early and not on their own terms. I always liked his game. 14 full seasons and he was a 7 time all star and selected 5 times to an all nba team.

Agreed, I think when it comes down to it, he will largely be forgotten with the other all time greats. Playing on Portland and than the Spurs teams post dynasty. Shame, he was a fantastic player. Good to see him not risk his health for a few years of ring chasing.

Agreed. People really undersell that Portland team that year - They made that midseason trade for Gerald Wallace & if my memorie is right were playing at maybe 55 win pace after that. Had Andre Miller, B-Roy, Batum, Wallace, Wesley Matthews, Aldridge, & Camby. Noone wanted to play them in the 1st round. Aldridge's prime was a bit wasted overlapping with a hobbled Brandon Roy and a younger Damian Lillard if I'm remembering correctly. Great player - tier below superstar, but as good as you could be otherwise at least offensively.

Gerald Wallace for Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams and a 2012 First Round Pick.....who ended up being Lillard.

He put together a really nice, underrated career.

And there was that one year where Kawhi & him had the Spurs looking like serious contenders and then Zaza happened

Best wishes to LA, just a shame we never got to see basketball nirvana with him + Joe Harris + Big 3. Hopefully we win anyway this year so he still gets his ring

Aside from Dunc and Dirk, one of the best pf midranges in the game.

Class act, never heard a bad word about him. Should have went back to Portland though.

Why did he leave Portland? Not happy there, or thought he was more likely to win in SA? Didn't want to share the spotlight with up and coming Dame?

Great career, no rings of course, HOF is 50/50 but I don't think he gets in.
