Default PSA Buyback Grade Change

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jcX6LcCmvHc

So this video is of a Pokémon card. However, as their buyback program purchases any and all graded cards, it applies to all PSA areas of the hobby.

This is why grading companies should not be allowed to sell cards.

Wow I was already very weary of selling them a PSA 9 card knowing they could easily just reslab it as a 10, make a quick huge profit and looky there it happens, I am sure not the first time this has gone on...

Woof.

This hobby is just ripe for manipulation at every level, in every sector, and by the biggest players.

If they could survive Cert #00000001 the sheeple will accept this, too.

I sold a recently-graded PSA 9 Paul Skenes R.C. to PSA Offers this week (fair enough price) and this was the first thought I had: They can easily transfer this card to a 10 slab and do with it whatever they want.

This gives them special incentive to undergrade cards as well. Years ago, it was suspected that certain individuals within grading companies would purposely undergrade cards then track them and buy them. They could then crack them and have them graded. Now we see that the companies themselves are possibly doing this as a business practice.

Yep. That company should have been dead on arrival with that debacle.

I created a thread weeks before about this exact concern. This is such a conflict of interest for PSA to both grade and sell cards. They need to remove their relationship with eBay and offering on graded cards altogether at this point to even attempt to retain any sort of credibility and integrity. Disgusting.

It's almost like they are trying to see what they can get away with at this point.

I despise the stranglehold that PSA has on this hobby, and it's almost impossible to avoid.

He'd probably just spew a bunch of boilerplate about how PSA strives for excellence and is always working on improving. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Seeing this makes me wonder if that would have happened to my Ohtani Montgomery Club set 1 RC I just got back. It got a 9, wish I could tell why. They offered $140 for it but I declined. Makes you worry this could be a trend on higher end, rare, and more popular submissions.

Fun hobby!

Nat - thank you for disappearing from BO after years of posting regularly (with many of your old posts talking about bad PSA practices, BTW) and then nowhere to be found once taking over PSA, the company you previously spoke badly about.

We really appreciate the clarity and support from you to the community! Keep up the outstanding work! You're doing a great job! No fraud to be found anywhere! Incredible leadership!

When you're basically printing your own money (PSA, Fanatics, etc) the power absolutely goes to their head.

I remember how excited I was about a fellow collector taking over at PSA. I truly felt that the company was going to only get better with someone like Nat on board. Instead, the company, despite what their bottom line might tell them, has only gotten worse with each passing year. Wolf in sheep's clothing, as the saying goes. He's just a multi-millionaire looking to make more millions. Good for him. Meanwhile, the company is stealing money from people who trusted them to provide a service that people used to have faith in.

All he would say is that you, or anyone else, including them, are allowed to crack cases and resubmit. Happens all the time. We hear stories on BO about sellers buying 9’s to crack and resub all the time.

This should be such a huge story, but the hobby just continues to let bad behavior go as long as the casino stays open.
