Default EBay “Managed Payments”

Does everyone else have this in their EBay account? You have to register by the 15th in order to keep listing items. Now they are asking for a bank account...are they doing this to circumvent PayPal. Has anyone set this up yet? Just looking for any other info.

Thanks everyone.

Yep, it’s fine, it actually works out to like 1%-1.5% going in your pocket vs PayPal

It's to circumvent PayPal. I signed up last month and haven't had any issues.

I've been using it for close to / over a month now.
It's been a good experience for me so far.
The funds don't come in right away unlike it used to with PayPal, so that might be slightly stressful depending on your circumstances, but I've gotten used to it already.

By the way, there is a thread dedicated to this topic in the "Ebay/COMC/Online Selling/Shows/Paypal/Shipping" section of the forum (link below), so you might want to peek in there for more details and other people's experience/thoughts.

I thought I would hate it, like most of the changes eBay makes, but I have been using it for a month and it has been pain free. I still prefer paypal because of the versatility in deciding when to sweep the money to my bank account. Also with the managed payments eBay will now deduct the final value fees from the payment you get from your buyer so no more invoice to be paid at the end of the month.

Thanks for the info everyone, what happens if you use multiple bank accounts for sales/purchases? I use one for my PC and one for “investment” cards.

I’m pretty sure you can set up multiple methods of payment. Especially if each account has a debit/credit card associated with it. But you can only use 1 account to be paid from eBay.

There can still be an invoice at the end of the month. Some things are not taken out still. Store subscription fees for instance. Promoted item fees, return postage, shipping adjustments and refunds that end up getting billed to your account will all still be invoiced.

For buying there are not any real changes a buyer just has more options to pay but cn choose the method a seller though its one account per ID. Even with the seller though if he buys on that account he still has the option of whatever method he chooses to pay.

It was annoying at first not having funds right away but now I kind of like it, and you get more back.

I don't have online banking so I don't guess I have any way of knowing if/when the money has been deposited in my account.

I avoided signing up as long as I could and then they restricted my ability to create new listings or edit my current listings. But I eventually signed up because I didn't have a choice. Only been at it a week but I hate everything going to my bank account instead of my paypal.

I need to set up an account specifically for eBay. I think that would probably help me a lot.

I'm a fan of not getting a monthly invoice. I never plan for it and then get whacked with anywhere from $2-500 at the end of the month. This is great because now it takes the fee at the time of the pay out and I don't worry about the invoice anymore.

The instructions say that you won't get paid for 3-4 business days. So far, I have gotten my payments the next day.

I held out as long as I could. Was forced to register, and it was the best thing I ever did. Not sure why there are so many complaints. I love it. The only downfall I could see are for those sellers who overextend themselves and need their funds immediately. But if you are not in that category, you should be good. Wish I did it a long time ago.

I haven't done this, but I'm not even sure that I can. I'd like to.

I "expressed interest" in managed payments on ebay's site. Is that what you all had to do? Maybe I don't meet the criteria.

I’ve been on it since the beginning, almost 2 years now. Other than the first week, while payments cycled through, I have never missed the old way.

I dislike not having funds available immediately (and it seems to take longer if an item's paid for over a weekend), but it's so nice to have fees taken out as items are paid. It's got its pros and cons.
