If so, how much less do you pay?
With GSP and other services widely available, I'm curious if you pay less for cards from sellers overseas. I've goten some pretty decent deals from South Korea/China/Japan, due to (IMO) people not wanting to wait longer than a week for a card to be delievered. I also see cards routinely sell for less USD from Canada/Australia since people dont pay attention to the conversion rate. I limited the poll option at 50% of a cards value, since I have rarely seen a card sell for less than 50% market value just because the seller was overseas. If you have won one with that steep of a discount, congratulations! Last edited by gabballplayer14; 05-15-2021 at 10:25 AM. |

If the seller has good feedback and the condition seems nice, no difference to me. I can wait a couple weeks for shipping for something I like.

For someone with strong feedback, I normally am willing to pay the same (adjusted for possibly higher shipping prices). Since almost everything I buy is for my PC, waiting a few weeks for delivery makes no difference. If you buy from overseas, though, be aware that you could get hit with a customs charge/duty on delivery, and I believe that falls on the buyer not the seller.
That said, because there is some inconvenience involved, most of my overseas purchases are either because the card is hard to find in the US or because the seller has the best price around. |

And yes, customs/duties absolutely falls on the buyer. After 22 years on EBay, I’ve been hit with such nasty surprises on delivery more times than I’d care to remember. Sometimes as high as 40% of the declared value. I tried to track a pattern, but could not find one other than the carrier used. UPS and FedEx have levied these fees far more often than other couriers or USPS/Canada Post. When I inquired about what may trigger this, I was told that it is random. I believe that because I have received items valued at $500+ with no customs, while others have a declared value of about $100, only to be hit with $30-$40 on delivery. To the main question, I would be more deterred from buying overseas due to these fees (including those sellers that insist on the Global Shipping Program) far more than because of slow shipping times, unless it was a must have PC item. |

Depends on the shipping cost.
There are quite a few hockey cards from sellers in Canada that I have avoided because of their insistence on charging $15-20 for shipping a $30-40 card.... |

Re: customs/duty... would be interesting if someone knew the rules I thought, for instance, that something that is manufactured in the USA should have no duty/customs due because country of origin is USA and thus just being repatriated. Also many countries we have free trade agreements with, like Canada, Japan, UK, Australia, etc... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't sell to overseas buyers and I don't buy from them either. Murica all the way.

The U.S. does not have a free trade agreement with the U.K./EU or Japan. |

What about goods that “source country” is USA? Are they exempt from duty when being repatriated from another country? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by pewe; 05-15-2021 at 06:30 PM. |

There are no duties owed on cards shipped to Canada from the USA (I would imagine it's the same for the other way as we have a free trade agreement)
Page 5 https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-co.../ch49-eng.html Here's a link to an article about DHL being sued for the same scam the GSP runs https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/dhl...fees-1.5987195

From what I gather sports cards made in the US do not have custom/duties when shipped back, but when it is a high value item, you may be asked to supply your tax ID and declare you are importing it. (This happened to me with a buyer and they refused and I had to call and get it shipped back to Canada...) Canada is hit or miss. But usually we get hammered with duty if declared appropriately/legit amount. I have paid up to 1100... Only time I do not get duties is if USPS was used, if fedex/purolater/UPS they must ask boarder agent to charge so they can up charge LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How do returns work if you receive a damaged item and the seller is based in China?

Buy all over the place depending on sport. |

If its a card that there are a million of them of(which I've probably never bought), then no for overseas. But a 1/1 or rare card I need? Of course I'll bid, and pay whatever I need to to win. No, I will not wait for the next one to come around... I want it NOW!!!!!!!!

I sold a 2019 Bowman Chrome Gold refractor auto PSA10 of Victor Mesa Jr for $480AUD ( approx $410 USD) early this year. That was a steal imo and the nearest comp was a sellers in the US at $1300 OBO. I charge $23 US postage which is what it costs me not taking ebay charges into account. I'm not sure what customs taxes are paid at the other end. Because the baseball market is almost non-existent in Australia most of my higer end cards I've sold into the US and usually at a fair bit below market value. I suspect wait times and the fact I only have 230 positive feedback go against me.

I'm not worried about getting stuff from Canada, but I'm starting to see more and more singles coming from sellers in Hong Kong which seems odd to me. I did buy a Dirk rookie from Australia. Took forever, but the seller was great.

I personally prefer to buy from overseas sellers. The shipping times are not bad at all, and you can usually pick up items cheaper than from domestic sellers.

I have picked up some really great stuff from overseas. I think that some of the stuff does tend to sell for less because there is a portion of buyers who won't bid on them. The only issue I have ever had was buying some sealed wax around Christmas that seemed like it wasn't climate controlled in transit, the seller was legit so I am convinced that the box had frozen at some point during the 1 month transit period. It was a relatively new product
sealed in an outwardly great condition but all of the cards stuck together terribly. |

Last two from overseas got here before other cards purchased same day in US. It certainly changed my tune. One of them was at full market (was rare), the other about 75%.

I have bought some from Canada, mostly vintage and a couple of modern singles. If the price is about the same or less I won’t hesitate. I have also bought from Canadian sellers on Sportlots without any problems. Doubtful I would buy anything from any other international sellers, Mostly due to what I collect.
