I have three. When I was 14 years old, going to a card show, and it was my first time seeing a Bill Russell rookie at a table. I bought it for $45, and I only showed up at the convention with $60!!! (at the time, Beckett guide had it worth $75, I believe). My mom was SCREAMING at me when I got home and told her what I paid (this was early '80s, and a lot of money for a kid).

Another was the Magic/Bird/Erving rookie card, for $15 at a card show. I hate the 1980 Topps set with a passion, but that was the card everyone said you had to have (this was around 1984). I bought it, figuring I needed one. Then later, I went thru my boxes, and saw I already had one!! (I also had another one, that, my dumb ass ripped apart from the other players, because....hey, I'm a kid!)

Lastly, was the five packs of '61 Fleer, unopened. What was weird about this purchase was...I was a bit older. Had a bit more money (I was 17). I showed up at this card show with $150. The third table I went to, had boxes and boxes of '61 Fleer, selling for $25 a pack. That's one of my favorite sets, and I only had a few common players from that year at the time. I bought 5 packs, and shot my wad. I had only $25 for the rest of the show (and I think I bought wacky items, as I was always fond of inserts and things of that nature).

Obviously, all those purchases ended up being great. What was the best you've ever gotten? (and sorry if this topic has come up before)

After that a lot of my more limited Lukas probably fit the bill I think the biggest might be my 2018-19 Optic Contenders Preview BGS 9.5 that I got for $550. Not too many of those out there

Almost two years ago, I bought two 2017-18 optic hobby boxes with the intent to keep one sealed. Being a Celtics fan, I thought it would be fun to try to hit a Tatum RC. I just have to pick the right box...

And I did! Umm, but this one looks pretty shiny, maybe even golden in color. I flip it over to find this gem numbered to 10. Was it flawless? Not exactly, but it was at least a PSA 9 by my eyes. I was laughing all the way down stairs to show my (Celtics fan) wife.

I submitted it for grading, along with a LeBron 2016-17 optic red /99 that I bought raw through PC Sportscards. Both cards incredibly came back as 10's. That's some ROI!

As much of a Celtics fan as I am, I had to cash in eventually and use the money for other fun adventures. I moved it in April while Tatum went on a crazy scoring run. No regrets! And probably won't hit a card like that again in my lifetime, but one can hope!

I still have the Lebron, but that's sticking with me for a while. ��

This may count as a trade, but there was cash involved too. Back in 1997, I went to Frank & Son (CA) and got a UDA Michael Jordan autographed 8x10 (out of 1,200) + a Gheorghe Mureșan Hoops Autographics card (famous for Jordan cologne spoof back then) for a RC and 2nd-year Eddie Jones Topps Finest Refractors + $50.

1992 Topps Basketball Series 2 wax bought on ebay for $225 shipped, with the specific purpose of Shaq rookie hunting. Pulled the Topps Gold Shaq and sub'd it earlier this year, GEM 10!

Got this for $45 raw on eBay last year. Guy told me he bought a PSA 9 to improve this card, why he let it go. He made the wrong choice.

Bought Giannis Gold Prizm /10 RC for 510 bucks. Sold for 34k. Bought a condo in Austin I now landlord. I miss the card but I made the right decision for me. If you ever see 6/10, that's my baby.

Jordan BGS 2.5 rookie for $1,100 12/31/00. Guy on craigslist had it, I messaged him, we met up at a post office about an hour away from both of us. I gave him the cash, he gave me the card. Not the most expensive card, but my most expensive purchase to date.

It's long gone but the probably the best purchase I ever made (and sorry to the seller) was a LeBron Ultimate RC Auto BGS 9.5/10

Bought it here on Blowout for $3,000 - $3,500 (can't recall exactly) and the seller was nice enough, as we were internet friends, to let me pay it off over 6 months as at the time $3,000 was an insane amount of money to me for a card. Can't recall the year but I bought it but it was a while ago.

It's long gone, can't even recall what I got for it in trade, but hopefully whatever I got has also gone up

Which it probably has since I traded it when I switched to only PSA 10's... but it didn't go up to 6 figures or whatever LeBron is now.

Baltimore National- NT had just come out recently I picked up a Harden, Curry & Derozan NT RPAs.... I don't think any of them were over $200.

They are long gone and I had a few rough years so I probably even took a loss on them.

I know it looks like MJ is bowling on the Ultimate Collection /69.
These are stored in a safe deposit box.
I chose all three as my "best" purchase, but my favorite is the Ultimate.

Case of 09-10 Jumbo for $700 when it first dropped. Made some mistakes selling certain players early but it was the best profit-wise. + still have some chrome/refractors in hand
