Lost mail at the post office

I had my mail held while I was out of town. The postal clerk brought everything out and said it was scanned. Normally, I see it scanned in front of me. One package still shows as being at the PO and I didn't see it in the packages I opened. I'm just wondering if anyone had this issue and how did ebay handle it?

This morning I opened a missing item case…and package missing for a while got delivered later today.
