Just got back from my first card show after getting back into the hobby in 2020. I have to say it was a real eye opener price wise when comparing to the pricing on Ebay, where I do most of my buying. Ebay is much more $$$, even before the shipping.
The show I went to was the Hub City Card Show in Moncton, NB, probably not a show that many others in this forum went to. First off I was very impressed with the amount of basketball that was present, I really didn't know what to expect. Just 1 or 2 tables with basketball or more? So there were probably 25ish tables in total, and probably 12 of them had a a good amount of basketball, 1 was mostly basketball, although it was a smaller table. I would guess it was probably 75% hockey and 10% basketball and 10% football and the rest was pokeman, golf, etc overall. I was also very impressed by the pricing, (full disclosure I'm talking low end stuff) I found all but 1 table priced very reasonable and willing to negotiate, which I only did once because again I found everything to be fairly priced (again low end stuff). At the table that would not negotiate I pulled 4 cards out of a "dollar box" (not marked) one of which wasn't even sleeved, and asked what they wanted for the cards thinking my might ask for $10, he came back with $20, I said I would think about it, he dropped to $15, I said I would still have to think about it, and ended up not buying, no big deal I guess. One other observation is that I noticed that many of these tables were not organized, no pricing, and many had sports mixed together which is a real annoyance when looking only for a certain sport. I didn't spend as much time at these tables. The real bright spot was the last table I stopped at. The guy only had a few basketball cards out and he asked what I was looking for and I told him and he pulled out this beautiful (to me) box of 90s/early 2000s inserts, and I pulled out about 6 or 7 I was interested in, and I really had no idea what these are worth or what he wanted for them, I was thinking he would ask $15 or $20 per card, and I would have to pick 1 or 2 that I really wanted, but he asked for $15 for the whole lot...amazing! I was/am super happy with that. Overall I give my experience a 9/10. The only negative was that the basketball cards were mostly from the last 2 or 3 years, which I am not really that into, but I did pick up a few. Looking forward to the next show! |

Usually there is something for everyone at shows, that is the best part. Last show I went to had 200 tables, only about 5 had stuff I wanted to buy and was able to make some deals, but the deals I made were worth the trip.
