Default 2000 Fleer Showcase Masterpiece Pricing

In 2000 I bought my friend a Ray Lewis 2000 Fleer Showcase Masterpiece 1/1 of Ray Lewis. The only one I can find on eBay or recent sales is the Jerry Rice on eBay currently (graded). How do you price out defensive players usually, defensive players with a following or HOFers? He wants me to try to sell it for him (a gift I gave him lol) because he's been out of cards for 20 years (as was I until COVID got me back in). Would the best way be to just throw it up on eBay? I'm not fishing four offers or anything, I'm generally curious.

Ray is a big name, with a big following. I'd toss it on ebay with a big Buy it Now or Best Offer, and see what happens.

Rare stuff from 20 years ago is suddenly hot right now. And this might very well be his first 1/1 ever made. Shoot for $5,000 and take what you feel good with.

It would be his 4th or 5th one released.
One in 98... four in 2000.

EDIT: This is wrong.
1 in 1998
4 in 1999

Wonder why he didn't have as many cards in 1999? Would have had several 1/1s there in the Fleer brands, Gold Label, etc.

Then I would market it as his "one of his first". Still a great spin, and helps pump the value.

Your friend wants to sell a gift that you gave him?

That's a shame.

I'm not sure how to post pictures guys so I'll have to wait until I get home from work to post. He definitely has the card because like I said he has been out of cards since 98 practically. I only got back into cards because of covid, and for the past 2 years I've been telling him how crazy this hobby is now, and for 2 years I've been asking him to find that masterpiece that I know he had buried somewhere. I swore I had bought him the 98 ultra masterpiece so I was surprised when he sent me the 2000 Showcase picture. I only have two crappy cell phone shots right now from him, but he did find it. If you're able to hit the link above then that's great because I can't figure out how to post pictures on this forum :/

Lol, I'm the same way. If somebody gives me a gift I do not sell it no matter what. But like I said he's not into cards anymore so it's not a big deal. Especially the fact that we are both die-hard Philadelphia fans, we just both happen to really like Ray Lewis back in the day. If it was a 1/1 Eagles player he would never get rid of it, even though he's out of the hobby completely.

Thanks for all of this suggestions maybe we will just throw it on eBay, but I have to get the card off of him first. He's in PA and I'm in CA. Getting him to even ship the card properly would be a miracle in itself.

Make sure you get time stamps etc before you go too far.

A copy of this card is actually in someone else's possession right now.

Two of those 99s are Upper Deck products... Crazy because for example Ricky Williams has several 1/1s from 1999... would have thought one of the league's better LBs and a Pro Bowler at that time would be in more sets. Only 65 total cards from 1999.
Comps: Derrick Brooks 41 cards, Charles Woodson 188 cards, Zach Thomas 104 cards.

It's a gift and besides, he seems fine with it. We dont know his situation and that's none of our business. Heck, if it was a $500 gift and suddenly it's a $5,000 gift, I'd be good with anyone selling it. I dont expect my friends or family to get buried with it

Hey I'm responding to above messages and someone through pm as well. I bought this card for him in 2000, not recently.

I'm waiting for the guy in my messages to reach out to me through IG so we could sort out these details because he's claiming to have the card himself. I'm not sure what the situation is, but I'm obviously not a scammer or anything as you can see my from my eBay feedback. I did an expect this post to go this route, that's for sure.

Backdoor, sheet-cut?

I'll just post really quickly again before I have to get back to work and get back to you guys later. I'm not sure what the situation is here, and I'm going to have my friend mail me the card I think. I can't imagine anybody faking Ray Lewis cards back in 2000, if anything was to be faked I would think they would slap that on Moss or Marino or whoever was hot back then? This was a Christmas gift for 2000, and at the time the most I had ever spent for a card, but wasn't $500. Back then I remember the whole concept of 1/1 being insane and I would always talk about the card even though I wasn't even in the hobby anymore. When I got back into the hobby during covid I was surprised at how many "1/1s" there are. Anyway like I said, this isn't a scam or anything, this is a card that has been put away for years and years.

A guy I follow on Twitter had this Ray in his collection. I messaged him trying to get him to sell to a friend of mine.

Tough, if what you said is true, you probably got the legit one since the Fleer bankruptcy auction went in 2005. Now it could be a backdoored copy stamped afterwards. Good luck and interested to see how this turns out.

I've seen a few other players in this set with the same front as the Masterpieces, but not the actual numbering on the back. Did guy on Twitter have a pic of the back of the card?

That's the only photo he shared. He did end up having several nice Lewis cards that he sold.
