Exclamation MUST READ TRIMMING THREAD: COMC- HawkDynasty,cccardfactory,LORDSTANLEY2012|PWCC|ih8ca

First, thanks to everyone that helped out with this one. I'll name corndog for working though all of the vintage and Mondo for making some of the overlays below. Also thanks to Dan for working alongside throughout. However, it was everyone else who really made it come together, and for that, I extend my thanks. You know who you are.

I have sectioned this thread as well as I can. With that said, PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE THREAD before replying below. There's a ton here and it is worth your time to read through it when possible and then construct a response or questions, to which I will happily respond.

Lastly, the cards in this thread aren’t even the tip of the iceberg. This fraud was lucrative on a volume, not dollar amount, basis. No card is worth too little to be trimmed.

II. History of OCSI

Below is a profile of OCSI in PSA's September 2009 SMR, which is less than a year before there a is proven trimmed card originating from this group via COMC (more on that below). There is no reason to believe that they were not trimming cards during and prior to September 2009 as well. Note that Scot Maxwell is a former PSA grader, which follows the theme of former PSA graders doubling as card trimmers.

They also operated as infinitisportscards2007 on eBay and as irvinecardco as well. irvinecardco is now an account that Johnathan Miller uses to purchase cards (and shill his PWCC consignments), but more on that later.

As you can see below, Johnathan discusses in mid to late 2010 how they are now working with COMC. At some point PSA-set-guy went NARU and as far as I can tell, everything was sold through COMC and PWCC.

Below is a bonus cccardfactory namedrop in the COMC blog. This may be relevant later when you see all the trimmed SGC cards, though I believe Derek Grady left SGC shortly after this blog post was created.

III. History of CardBuyer

Although one would think that ih8ca on BO (Johnathan Miller) is the same person as CardBuyer based on his Blowout profile, this is actually not the case.

Looking though cardbuyer.com for an identity, Rich Katz is the man behind the website:

http://cardbuyer.com/testimonials
https://web.archive.org/web/20190824...m/testimonials
https://web.archive.org/web/20190824...r.com/about-us

Katz is a real estate investor and also is the owner of the card-buyer eBay account.

Here is the 2015 shipping address on the card-buyer eBay account:

Card Buyer
1534 N Moorpark Rd #[REDACTED]
Thousand Oaks, CA 91360

That is the same UPS store (and mailbox #) in Thousand Oaks that is used on the 2014 LLC filing for the real estate investment business he manages:

Here is some relevant reading on Net54 about CardBuyer that discusses that they are not looking for prewar baseball cards, even though that is the main focus of their website: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=262892

IV. Recent History

I’ll preface this section by stating that my working theory is that Johnathan Miller or an OCSI employee was using the card-buyer eBay ID to purchase cards to trim and resell. However, whether this is true or not is somewhat irrelevant. Regardless of the validity of this claim, Rich Katz still has questions to answer about why his account was used to purchase a massive number of cards would later be trimmed by OCSI. He has to be involved to some degree. Also, regardless of the validity of the claim, Jonathan Miller, by his own admission, is ultimately responsible for all the cards that were trimmed in his possession. Read on for a timeline of events to substantiate all of this.

April/early May 2019- I checked to find the eBay buyer code for card-buyer. As a long-time COMC user, I knew HawkDynasty (ih8ca on BO) was a large PSA card dealer and I wanted to make sure I kept tabs on him/them just in case. It was r***r.

Mid-May 2019- After making a slew of threads on trimmed cards in PWCC's May auction, may from one sub, I tried to link them back to a submitter. I found green star buyer codes a***d and r***r. Below are some of the threads I made on this submission. I never linked back the r***r feedback at the time because I found the a***d feedback first and gave up after tracing the sub to multiple accounts.

I was not aware of this message or the one above until a month later. What clearly seems suspect now ("the situation") must not have raised any questions at the time.

June 2 2019- PM from ih8ca to Dan:

(Note that PWCC had not banned them yet. More on that later.)

June 30 2019- I was going through my Curry/Harden thread (Link: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1293843) and came across the last untrimmed sale of Harden #15 (reference link). Below is what I saw:

Link: https://web.archive.org/web/20190630...4311&page=1903

This time I remembered who r***r was and went back to ih8ca's BO profile to check to see if his feedback was private. Remember that both in April/early May and mid-May, I saw a green star on the r***r account (and the a***d account), so it was not private then. This means that between mid-May and June 30, 2019 the feedback on the account was set to private.

Seeing this, I knew I was in good shape. There's very few private accounts on eBay, so I knew I had the right buyer. After circulating this around privately, I learned about the bolded "card-buyer" message above. I was advised to reach out privately first, which is what I did:

June 30 2019- This was sent to Dan, not me:

July-August 2019- ih8ca sent me lists of serial numbered and autographed "card-buyer cards" consigned to PWCC from most of 2018-April 2019. I am just now realizing that May 2019 was never sent, which is curious in itself. Regardless, I identified 18 cards in some of these lists (I still have some to go through) for PWCC to buy back via funds placed into escrow by ih8ca. I agreed to do this because the scope of affected cards was seemingly well-defined-- it was "card-buyer cards" consigned by PWCC from 2015-current. This was clear, although there were some curious contradictions that made my skeptical of this scope. One was the 2015 date, which was strikingly identical to the arbitrary refund date that PWCC established. However, I went along with this for a month and a half or so not really digging any deeper to see if I could start to confirm the scope of this and ensure I wasn't being played.

August 4, 2019- I became a little more suspicious after this exchange (where I was initially just trying to help him out):

If it wasn't clear in the exchange above, Miller admits he purchased the card as a BGS 9, which is untrimmed and shown below, and "had it cracked out" and reholdered it. So, he admits that bought the card and he sold the card. He also identified it as a card-buyer card. This begs the question how he isn't card-buyer and how he didn't know/notice it was trimmed.

Upon writing this thread, I have located the buyer feedback of the untrimmed BGS 9 sale. As, you can see, it was purchased by none other than card-buyer:

https://web.archive.org/web/20190824...&mPg=26&page=2

This card was one of the 18 identified cards from lists provided by ih8ca:

https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...end-1883536383
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...-sp-1889957382
https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/items/1748766

In conclusion, ih8ca purchased the card (by his admission). He clearly used card-buyer to do so. Alas, it can only be assumed that he is using card-buyer to purchase untrimmed cards that he later consigns after trimming with PWCC.

13 August 2019- Here is what led me to investigate the scope that Johnathan laid out above:

Quote:

I got the feeling any legit business that hurts pwcc has you guys support. If I have any ideas or you guys have anything. Would you guys like to discuss them? You know how protective I am with comc.
It's probably clear at this point that I'm not a big fan of PWCC, and in fact I will get back to bashing them at the end of the thread, but this is a ridiculous comment that goes to show that Johnathan has scoped this as to throw PWCC under the bus and take the fall for his fraud while protecting his interests and accounts with COMC. As I will exhaustively illustrate below, either he never volunteered that there were "card-buyer cards" on COMC (if taking his story to be true) or "card-buyer cards" is just a way to spin his false narrative and EVERYTHING going through OCSI is subject to trimming. At any rate, it is asinine to bash PWCC when you sent tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent cards to them. Totally mind-boggling and the straw that broke the camel's back.

After this, I found a slew of trimmed cards, both raw and graded, on Miller's COMC accounts. I identified a proven trimmed card subbed to PSA by psa-set-guy that was graded in 2010 and sold via COMC in 2011. It was purchased pre-trimming on COMC. I also identified another eBay account for OCSI, irvinecardco, which also has private feedback and has a shipping address in Johnathan Miller's name. See below for some details on that. The account is used to shill OCSI's PWCC auctions.

irvinecardco shipping address:
OCSI Miller
PO Box
XXXX
Garden Grove, CA 92842-4697

In the sections below, I will show everything I have claimed above, but I'd like to first review the assertions I made at the beginning of this section:

1.) Johnathan Miller AKA ih8ca or an OCSI employee is using card-buyer to purchase cards to trim (not Greg Katz).

The best way to support this is the Lebron outlined above that ih8ca claims to have purchased as a BGS 9. Remember, he volunteered this information himself, and at that time, I did not know it had been graded a BGS 9 twice (one trimmed and one untrimmed). The second way this can be supported is the changing of card-buyer and irvinecardco feedback to private. It is clear that irvinecardco is Miller himself by the shipping address. In mid-May neither account was private, as I distinctly remember both r***r and a***d having green star feedback. That means either Miller had control of both accounts to set the feedback to private, or he willingly participated in a coordinated attempt to hide evidence of card trimming and shill bidding. Lastly, let’s not forget that card-buyer is the eBay account linked to ih8ca’s Blowout profile. Why you would link an account that isn’t “yours” is beyond me. Moreover, cardbuyer.com is linked to Johnathan's account.

2.) The identity of card-buyer is ultimately totally unimportant.

First, I can see no discernible cross section of OCSI's cards that is not subject to trimming. There are currently trimmed cards for sale on HawkDynasty, cccardfactory, and LORDSTANLEY2012. There are both modern and vintage trimmed cards. There are trimmed cards graded by PSA, SGC, and BGS. (Continue reading for proof.) And recall this:

There are also trimmed cards that were purchased untrimmed on COMC (e.g. not the card-buyer eBay account). At the end of the day, ih8ca wants us to believe that someone working at his pre-grading shipping and receiving warehouse has been trimming cards since at least 2010 without his knowledge. Not only does this have nothing to with card-buyer specifically, who Miller wants us to focus on, this is an absolutely unbelievable line of reasoning.

With that said, the rest of this thread is full of trimmed cards, shilling evidence, and at the end, a list of demands for COMC and PWCC as a result of the findings presented in this thread.

VI. Trimmed Vintage Sold via PWCC

Thanks to corndog for all these. Again, this isn't even the tip of the iceberg. All cards were purchased by card-buyer. Some (noted below) do not appear in PWCC's sales history. Someone else can piece together why that is. Finally, most of these cards are so blatantly trimmed, it is comical that PSA missed them.

VII. PSA Fails Yet Again

card-buyer purchased this BGS Authentic Altered Topps Ripken RC for $16.50. It was then graded a PSA 10 and sold for $687.56. PWCC noted that the BGS Authentic Altered appeared to be trimmed, but evidently the card was not scrutinized the same after PSA graded it a 10. As you can see below, neither the top nor the bottom edges are cut straight. Trimmed or not, this card should not have been given a numerical grade. If you can't get this one, I don't know how PSA could catch any of the vintage (or modern) cards above.

VIII. OCSI and COMC Selling Trimmed Cards Since 2010

Below is a Dan Marino autograph that I found before and after pictures of on COMC. Someone has graciously used a history point to find that the trimmed PSA 10 sold on 6/27/2011. It is in a psa-set-guy PSA submission as shown by the Brett Hull card below (sold on eBay on 6/13/2010). Both the top and bottom edges are trimmed. Thanks to Mondo for helping out with this one. See the videos for supporting evidence. Lastly, although I have not shown it below, other cards in this PSA submission were also purchased raw on COMC, although I have not shown this below.

XIV. BUYER BEWARE of All Cards on COMC- Past and Present

It’s clear to regular COMC users that this trio of user IDs is COMC’s largest consignor. One of the largest problems here is all the untraceable flipping that occurs on COMC. I went to a user ID of someone who I know to buy a lot from HawkDynasty. Of course there are trimmed cards listed. Not calling out this user in any way, but COMC needs to recall all cards consigned by all the OCSI accounts. Note the Goff appears to have been sold raw on COMC and then graded. at PSA.

XV. Evidence of Shilling by card-buyer and irvinecardco

I will keep this short because this thread is already way too long. Below I illustrated one instance each of card-buyer and irvincecardco purchasing their own cards in PWCC's auctions. There is a lot more of this, but it quickly becomes redundant, especially since all of the cards are likely trimmed anyway. "card-buyer list" cards were sent to me by ih8ca.

XVI. List of Demands for PWCC

This one is simple.

1. Ban these clowns from consigning!

Why are you still taking cards from these guys? They are still listing trimmed cards on COMC as of THIS PAST FRIDAY. Give me a break.

Once I get clarity what is happening and everything is pretty much wrapped up. I will donate any remaining funds to a charity of Boda s choice.

XVII. List of Demands for COMC

Multiple COMC employees are aware of this issue as of at least seven days ago. They had all five business days last week to get ahead of this. I have seen or heard nothing. During that time, I have found the vast majority of the COMC cards in this thread and I don't have access to their sales database. They could've preempted this thread. Anyway, when I asked James about COMC's trimmed card policy here on BO on Friday afternoon, this is the response I got:

Quote:
Originally Posted by COMC James View Post

"If you ever get a card that you are not satisfied with, let us know within seven days and return your purchase within 14 days of delivery, and we will issue a full refund. We do not charge restocking fees."
At any rate here are four actions that COMC needs to take, some immediately and some as fast as they can be executed:

1. Immediately suspend all OCSI accounts, including HawkDynasty, cccardfatory, and LORDSTANLEY2012. Remove all items from these accounts.

2. Take down all items currently for sale on the site that were consigned by any of these accounts but are being sold by other users.

3. Open a complete database containing scans of all items sold on COMC since 2010. At the VERY least, a database of all cards purchased and sold by all these accounts needs to be made available to all COMC users.

4. Upon the completion of #3, all users who purchased cards from these accounts need to be contacted so they can determine if their cards have been trimmed. This won't help with cards purchased on eBay, but it's better than nothing.

COMC users, please feel free to cosign this list below.

I very rarely comment in these types of threads, but I do read them. That being said ...

The work that is being done and investigated is astonishing!!! Truly valuable to the hobby and I cannot begin to understand how much time you all are spending on it. Some in the hobby may not understand and/or not have anywhere near the money to purchase cards like these (very much like me), but if I did, I would be definitely be paying attention.

Earlier, when these threads started, I was disillusioned to the fact that BO would not be enough to bring 'outside of BO' attention to the problem. Wow! I could not have been more incorrect (gladly so). National articles being written on this fiasco shows the importance of your work on these frauds.

Very well done and keep up the great work!

This is some Nancy Drew level of detective work going on here.

Seems to be a trend of former grading company workers, getting in line with trimmers to boost their grades.

Good work crew!

There are some big time COMC fanboys here. Can’t wait to see what they say. Along with what COMC has to say.

I'm going to need to take a look through my BGS notes.

Already had HawkDynasty noted as receiving grade sorted BGS submissions (similar to Joe Clemons and Leaf). As I was mainly focusing on Black Labels, I didn't spend much time looking at the grouped 10's and 9.5's from this seller.

COMC is the best place to buy and sell "off" cards

their scanning software is horrendous, but great at hiding any flaws a card may have

Wow, that's a whole lot of information to process. COMC needs to address this quickly. Having these guys advertised on their Top Sellers/Buyers page is not going to age well.

Great work to all involved. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

This one hits a lot closer to home than PWCC because I actually utilize COMC a lot. I'd like to hold out hope that COMC will do the right thing and remove these sellers and the cards. $1.7 million in SRP between LORSSTANLEY2012 and HawkDynasty says otherwise.

Wow. Some amazing detective work right there.

Some of those cards are rather thick too (i.e.: Buehler TCU auto, Judge Best auto). Whatever machine they are using must be insanely sharp to cut through the thicker cards with that precision.

Thanks for the info. I am very active on COMC.

Just downloaded my purchase and sales history to see how much I've dealt with these fools.

Remember when Tiger Woods won he Masters earlier this year? Welp, I decided to purchase a couple PSA 10 2001 Upper Deck Tiger's... they all came from HawkDynasty.

He had a ton of these PSA 10 Tigers for sale, maybe 30 or so (I purchased 2 of them). All Tiger Woods RCs that are PSA 10 are now suspect to me.

I only had these cards for maybe a day before I flipped them for good profit, but I am now pretty certain I was flipping trimmed Tiger's without having any idea.

I've purchased 25 cards from LordStanley2012 but haven't had time to research these yet.

I always knew Hawkdynasty and CCcardfactory were the same person. They priced cards way too similarly to not be.

And now with no explanation of what the condition issue is just the condition grade buckets, even easier to hide. I'm sure there is no reason to be concerned about that minor detail though.
