Yes, I think this captures the hobby. Most iconic cards.

I don't think there will ever be a consensus card for any player past guys like Trout that the hobby would ever accept for that player, so that might be it.

The trout is there only due to recency bias.
The 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 should replace it in your diagram. |

Me either, I think they are it for the time being. Wagner, Mantle & Griffey will probably never be removed from the mountain.
The Trout spot is interesting though. I think it was once manned by the 1968 Ryan, 1986 Canseco, 1990 Leaf Thomas, 1993 SP Jeter, 1994 SP Arod, 2001 Chrome Auto Pujols, 2009 Chrome Auto Trout and now the 2012 Update Trout. |

I'm with you on the first three. The Trout card is certainly the most recognized of the last 10 years but I don't see it holding up against the other three. The next question that comes up is what card should replace it, and to that I am really struggling to find an answer. I would first suggest a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth, but the fact that there are four different ones to choose from waters down that option and rules it out.
I can only think of two strong candidates for the job, the 1989 Fleer FF Bill Ripken and 1953 Bowman Pee Wee Reese. |

Besides, only retired players should be on a Mount Rushmore, unless you are implying that Trout’s career is already over.

Essentially it's just the most iconic card from each of the main hobby eras.

No way on the Trout Update. Not iconic, not even close. 1984 Donruss Mattingly is far more iconic, which could make it, but the obvious omission is something from Ruth. Goudey, maybe, but why not a Ruth RC? 1968 Ryan RC could also be up there.
